Pics of the new car

Pics have gone of to a local car restoration firm. Just waiting for prices now. I also need 4 new tyres as the existing ones have cracked after being stored.

I'm hoping to be fixed and running for £1500.

What's worrying me is that my pension is a 1986 on a "D" Guards Red lux with a bit of rust in the cills...[][][]

I'd try and add either a toast rack, like mine, or later turbo/S2 spoiler at the back, IMO the early cars without any under-bumper spoiler look really odd. First time I've seen Fuchs on an oval-dash, very nice!

Don't know whether to be depressed to see a decent car go for £600, or to be glad it's going to be cared for! [&:]

very nice - the wheels are probably worth most of what you paid for the car [:D]

Don't listen to Paul - the clean look at the rear is just right.

I wouldn't worry Paul, I think prices are at rock bottom at the moment, give them a couple of years and any genuine 944 will fetch good money. I think I was just lucky to find such a cheap car, I think it was worth more than he was asking.

Don't agree about the rear end, I think it looks great. Mine will be brought back to the showroom spec, I'm even tempted to fit a period radio cassette.

The price for the metalwork is in, £400 for a full sill on the drivers side and a small repair to the rear of the passengers. Price doesn't include paint though, I guess around the £350-400 mark for the sills and front spoiler?

That looks superb - you must be well chuffed. And at that price, bargain of the century ...

Rear ends - I happen to agree with Paul. At the Frontrunner a couple of weeks ago, we ended up following an early Lux and a late 924, both of which lacked any kind of trim below the rear bumper, and both of them looked a little odd. It's all a matter of personal choice (and I strongly approve of the 'keep it original' mentality), but a rear spoiler of some kind does finish the tail end of the car off more elegantly.

Oli.

I think I'm going to dig out my mig welder and patch the passenger sill myself. I can then mot the car and discover any potential problems. If there are any expensive issues I can decide whether to keep it or pass it on. I just don't want to spend the thick end of £1000 on bodywork and tyres and then discover the gearbox is shot.

I'm sure it will be ok though and with an mot it will be easier to ferry around to get the bodywork and tyres done.
