Picture time!

Got bored on sunday and went for a random drive - ended up going up the Cat and Fiddle (A537 IIRC) and had forgotten how much fun it is. Last time I went up there I completely lost the back end going round a corner, kept it under control but very sideways - the the car coming the other way about 50m off must of had a cracking view of a sideways 944 bursting round the corner! Turns out I'd picked a puncture up on the rear pax side in Macclesfield and had to have the RAC out to inflate the space saver as I'd taken the pump out 2 days previous and not put it back[].
Totally different game now its shod in Toyo T1R's and properly aligned! Went back and to 3 times in total then stopped at the Cat and Fiddle to take some shots of ths stunning scenery that I thought I'd share and show off [:D]:

Are there many other places like this people know of?

I am off back to Chester from Stamford this weekend might even try to recreate the same route. They are stunners though aren't they [:)]. Not the views [:)]

Great pics - I know that road very well as lived not far from there for a number of years. Plenty of other similar roads nearby - Road between Buxton and Whaley Bridge isn't bad and close by to the Cat and Fiddle, plus teh road from Macc to Whaley has its moments - then various others twars Castleton and beyond. Happy days !

I've never driven the cat and fiddle. I would love to.

I know a road. I'm not sure whether its safe to publish the details even on a locked forum, probably not as I'd like to enjoy it again a few times before I die but its referred to amongst our group as the 'Goldeneye' road. A long downhill stretch in Wales dropping to sea level. There are drops of several hundred meters into a lake with nothing more that a foot high, gapped stone wall down one side and an almost vertical bank on the other. It winds down the inside of a bowl in a valley meaning for the most part the road ahead is visible well before you get to it but the road kinks and snakes with little dips back into the hillside giving the opportunity for a few hairpin style bends. The whole road is in true welsh style immaculately well maintained with the kind of tarmac you'd only ever see at Silverstone this side of the Welsh border.

I have made memories down there that nothing could ever erase and events that included stopping to chat to the owner of an (at the time) brand new Subaru we'd been following only to discover we had both driven an hour out of our way to keep with each other because we had been having so much fun. Cooking the famously bad brakes on the E36 M3 3.0 6 times and pumping the pedal against the carpet whilst hammering down through the gears because I (with the willing consent of my passenger egging me on) refused to slow down and lose time against the friend we were following and lastly taking full advantage of the excellent Xenon light in the Mk5 golf drving on my own at 0.30am I managed to create so much G-force in my R32 that I simply couldn't hold me feet on the pedals as I was pressed against the side of the seat (average mpg on the dash display was 9.7mpg after that trip and almost 2/3rds of the distance was motorway driving).

I really like the first shot . . . . BUT - turn off the time and date stamp, it ruins your picture as it is so distracting!

Here's your original:

Sorry, was in a rush and left the post above the car in. Will edit it and the pylon out when I get back in later.

Thanks for all the compliments everyone!

Eldavo: How have you removed the sign so smoothly [:-] Its a damn sight better than anything I could do with MS Paint [:D] I havn't played with proper image products for years and years, I wasn't aware they could do such a clean job.
I completely forgot about the timestamps, I'd left them on for when I took some pictures of the rear wheel bearing I replaced so I could put together a How-To and never removed them - I thought they'd be little footnotes in the corner but they really do shout at you :p It was lucky I had the camera as I'd just been taking pictures for Insurance and it ended up in the car with me.

DivinE: Sounds like a lot of fun, I'm not THAT far from wales... I could wander over one sunday morning I suppose[;)]

I drove that road in July (and the bit from Whalley Bridge), as we were staying in Pott Shrigley. Unfortunately I was in my Wife's 730 and had the family on board, so couldn't enjoy it to the full!

Agree its better without the time and date but personnally I prefer the picture with the sign in it, shows the connection to car, driving and road better, otherwise its just another sunset car picture....

I agree Copperman, I tried to put the car in such a way I wouldn't get any signs but I couldn't due to other cars and the fact a bus timetable sign plus a few others are just out of shot :(

When I got home and saw them I kinda liked how the chevrons were in the pic, but I can also appreciate how good and clean it looks without them. Bah, I'll just *have* to drive back up and take some more pictures at some point in the future.... the things I have to do......

God damn I love them in white. I just keep looking at the back on that picture your messing with and seeing the contrasting black spoiler/trims against the white paint. Such a gorgeous image with the blue tint in the glass coming out too.
