After making a few posts I thought I'd get round to posting some pictures of my new C2:

Not sporting new alloys yet - although I did fit them on Sunday (after a thorough clean).

Going to enjoy it this weekend as I'm going to lose it for a while as its going in for a respray next week[:)]

Very nice and about time too! [:)] When I started looking for mine guards red and black (especially with red piping) was my preferred spec but couldn't keep waiting so bought white! [:D]

p.s. Winter is the time for re-sprays and other major work.....you should save the summer for driving it [;)]

Wished I could wait! It would work out cheaper too.

I just want to get it right and start to enjoy it. It has lots of early stage rust around the arches and rear bumper seams. Thought best to tackle before it gets any worse.

Looking good. Which wheels did you replace with? Doesn't look like it needs a respray; full or partial?

The arches have surface rust and theres rust along the bottom edges of the rear wing. It could wait but thought I would get off to a good start with the car.

The wheels are 16" cups - they look good. I'll have to take a picture this evening.

Re rust - yes, been there with mine. It might be worth checking under the plastic sill covers as well. Please do post photos, we all like looking at these cars.

To keep the cost down I'm stripping the car (bumpers, headlights, door cards, side skirts etc) so there will be ample opportunity to look at the rust in all of its glory. I'll put some pictures up of it. I can't wait really - the place I'm using have done work for me before and its of a very high standard. They paint some very exotic cars, so I'm hoping they'll try just as hard with my pride and joy [:)]

Its been a busy couple of weeks. Had to get the car to the body shop before my holiday last week and it meant working evenings all week to remove the bumpers and sill covers. I'm sure it would take a fraction of the time if s/s screws and bolts were used ... and if I had remembered I had a dremel [:)]

The car made it to the body shop just before close on Friday, looking a bit sorry without its 'clothes'. As ever the rust looked worse when the bumpers and sill protectors were off, but still refreshingly orginal.

Heres the pictures (too many for a thread IMO) - please be gentle with your comments [:(]
Car prior to body shop

The scope of the work changed from a tidy up to glass out respray (x/c roof & scuttle). In the first week they did doors to the back of the car, taking lots of pictures. The car was sprayed last Friday. I saw the car fresh from the booth on Monday and it looked good. I've gone for a base coat and lacquer to ease the blend with the roof and 3 coats of lacquer should give me ample scope to polish to my hearts content over the coming years!

The guys took the wings off to repair them (these poeple are really fussy about getting things right). While the wings were off it seemed right to put right a previous repair by a well known body shop in Edingburgh which in IMO was pretty shoddy - buyer beware here. So now only the rear glass is left in!

Some bad news came in about the inner wings, when the outers were removed. Start of rust at top edges, so more digging / treating and painting required.

Should have the car back middle of next week along with a CD of pictures.

Should anyone be interested, the place is called Kustom 101 in Tewkesbury and you can probably guess I can recommend them. Its a two-person operation, commited to excellent results. Worth a visit, and you can normally see something special being worked on. There has been a 430 Spyder there with my Porker, so good company [;)].

Dropped in again today to hear some more bad news ... when they redid the previous scuttle repair they found that filler had been used to block up a hole. Like I said the job done by a certain 'coachworks' in Edinburgh is poor by most standards.

A couple of metal patches later and some filler and its back on track.

I'm starting to dread the bill now[:(]

I received the 'all-done' phone call today, so we cut short the shopping trip to pick the car up from the body shop.

I have to say that I'm amazed with the finished article. I'm probably cursed with an obsessive nature, but even after a couple of hours looking around it still looks brilliant (someone asked above why have it resprayed, well thats the reason). The bill wasn't too bad either, all things considered. For a respray and refurb (see pictures above), glass out, some welding it came in less than £2.5k. This reflects two weeks of long days, 6 days / week.

I'm picking up the CD of pictures in the week, so I'll post those.

Only drawback was the visit to the OPC this morning to order all the replacement plate nuts, screws, washers, seals etc, for the front and rear bumpers, arch liners which comes to about 10% of the cost of the respray - for just a few screws ... []

Have been following your posts regarding your respray. Bet you're pleased to have the car back. Notice you're in the Tewkesbury area. I've a C2 that I'm totally in love with and am near Cirencester. Recently met up with Kevin another 964 forum member from north Bristol and we had a great evening recently swapping data about our cars etc. If you ever fancy a local get together then let me know.
Incidentally, who do you use to service your car? I don't think we are too well blessed in this area with independents as far as I can tell. I've been using Autofarm and whilst I've found them excellent they are nearly 50 miles from me up by Bicester.

Sounds great. Another member, RSGulp (Rich), is in Cheltenham. He's aiming to arrange regular get togethers, so perhaps we can combine them. Are you going to the R13 shown night on 27th June? It sounds like it will be a real cracker.

WRT the service - I have't needed one yet. I think I might use OPC Solihull, as they have been really good so far with supply of bits / advice etc. When I asked about a service the normal price was 350 (which I thought was v. good) and suggested an even lower rate if I could leave the car with them[:)]

Chris, I've sent you an email re: arranging a local meet.

Guys, don't forget the 964 BBQ on the Spa GP weekend:

Great location and very nice place to stay overnight. A few of us spent a nice long evening there last year discussing Porsches over (more than) a few pints [:)]
