pipe welding - 944 Porsche

Fritz

New member
Hello Guys,

I'am the owner of a 944 Turbo and I have a problem. The low pressure air con pipe has a slice cut through it. Could caused by the wiper linkage. Id imagine that all the rerigerant has leaked out of the system, at least on one side.

Questions:
Is it safe to weld the hole in the alu Pipe?
are pipe Clamps (these for example) useful in my case?

Thanks for your answers.

Greets from Germany,

Fritz

If you can get at it, and the pipe is definately empty, weld will be fine - will need to be a good welder to make sure its gas tight.

You may be able to cut the line and install a union fitting or similar if it is in a straight section - not sure about the OD of the pipe so not sure fittings are readily available - those experienced with A/C sb able to help with that.

I'm an ac tech and yeah it can be done! Me personally would remove the pipe and get it to a specialist or look into making a new one, talk with a local ac man and see if he can make you a new pipe.

Nowadays You can get a compression fitting to repair straight sections of damaged AC pipes. You can get them from Euro Car Parts.
