Pirelli Tyres

Whilst Pirelli fanny around playing F1 super dudes they have stopped making tyres for their customers. There are no Boxter rears [PZERO 265/35/19/N2] in the country and non being made as we speak.
A very good reason for never specifying Pirelli again I suggest.

John, give me a moment I like a challenge ....

It could be worse. Look what Michelin are fannying around with:

It's worth calling Porsche GB at Reading as apparently Pirelli UK keep a small reserve of tyres exclusively for OPC customers. This reserve (I was told it was 16) is excluded from available stock levels that tyre centres can access. I discovered this when Porsche found a set of P Zeros for me last September when all tyre suppliers were showing nil stock on Pirelli UK's stock system.

The excuse for no stock last year was that Pirelli had moved production to a new factory which was late coming on stream. Sadly this appears to be BS as it seems to be a constant problem with Pirelli and some other tyre makers too. A contact at Bridgestone hinted that this because no one can afford to carry inventories of low volume products and only manufacture in small batches one or twice a year. As always the corporate bean counters' policies are destroying hard won brand reputations.

I was told that one of the major brands had closed three factories due to the downturn in the world economy and had no plans to ramp up production for a good while. Can't remember who it was, though.

...later, after some Googling:

On the other hand, Pirelli are expanding a plant in Romania

And it anyone feels the need to remain fully informed, they could always subscribe to:

12th of March I have been told is the start of the next production run.

re: contacting the OPC, they may as you cannot source any cut you a deal on 4 alternates.

Does this mean if you have one punctured tyre beyond repair you have to replace all 4 (approx. £1k) to keep the Porsche warranty, as I would have thought 2 would be OK MOT wise?

There have been deals in this situation, it's typically wear based, on a percentage of life remaining. So you would pay 100% on the punctured tyre and if say the rest had 80% life left, 20% each for the other 3.

This is only in cases where Porsche cannot supplier the tyre due non-availability from the tyre manufacturer.

In John's case here needs two rears as they are worn; so he would pay for those and part on the two fronts.

Not a perfect result but better than nothing.

I purchased a pair recently at Wembley Tyres, might be worth a try to see if they have still got any.

I have been told by my insurer I dont need N rated tyres for mine the Zeros are in storage and I have uniroyals that are a fraction of the price and do a better job.

This is an interesting question. If my Jeep has a puncture in Bulgaria I am on the road again in twenty minutes,
If my GT3 has a rear puncture anywhere I need to get recovered say 4 hours, source a replacement tyre currently up to six weeks, hire a car, and continue to enjoy my trip [ not] The bill could be hundreds.
Has anybody considered that this is just another example of the sports car consumer being suckered by the makers. A spare, ok spacesaver, is possibly the most essential accessory there is, but because it's difficult to design them in let's omit them.
I design buildings for a living, hey no more toilets, they spoil the look !
