Pirelli zero rossos

Yo

Can you still get zero rose's for the front? I got some for the back a few months ago, but whenever I look for fronts no one seems to have them.

If they're discontinued, what's the best equivalents for a daily runner (100miles/day) with the best non-aquaplaning (I live 'oop t' north)

Cheers

Johnny, if it's 17s you are after Blackcircles seem to have P zero rossos right now. Your post made me wonder about availability of Mich PS2s that I've been using for years - and I'm very happy with them in the wet (even further north!). I'll need a new set soon.

Looks like 18s in your avatar, Johnny. If so, and you're talking about those, looks like the same turbos as mine and I can comment on the exact point you make.
IMHO Conti Sport N2s are the way to go in the wet, having compared specifically PS2s and Contis on the exact same wheels in the exact same weather in the exact same junctions and roundabouts around these parts and the latter are a good lot better in terms of grip, before they twitch then let go. And we've got it even wetter than Mark - unfortunately[:(]. Not tried Pirelli Rossos on this car as the only experience I've had with them was ... aquaplaning ! Was another car but similar from the point of view of tyre spec / workload : Audi quattro S4. Even with good tread on them, so was not keen to go for Pirellis (and again IMHO, although they do our wheel specs, their energies are likely more concentrated on fitting up / speccing the latest Porsche models under their partnership agreement than ours).

I've tried a few different tyres and I like the Conti Sport N2s for road use. Good all round tyre.

I tried zero rossos years ago on my old 3.2 and they were terrible, I was going onto the M6 once and when I put my foot down the car span twice between 2 lorries and thank f*** ended up pointing the right way in the middle lane. Must have looked good :) but I thought I was a goner.

On my 993 though I've tried Contis (good) but they don't match the rossos in the wet, there's a spot on the M58 where there's always a river when it rains and the're the only tyres that don't twitch.

I've currently got michelin on the front, they've lasted forever (about 30K motorway miles) and they're hardly worn. However they don't like some of the bumpy country roads near Lytham, they lose grip when you land. Now they've got a slow puncture so I'm giving up on them before winter and icy roads arrive.

What rear tyre size are you running on 18" turbo wheels, my C4 has 285/30's but there seems to be small deposits of rubber on the rear bumper, which I think are coming from the outer edges of the tyres catching the wheel arch, however you can't hear any signs of the catching.

265/30's on mine, Chris, factory-lowered suspension too, and that's the sensible limit IMHO as you can barely get a finger up between wing and tyre, yet never been any rubber deposits on the bumper, even when vigorously tracked or laden with 3 people.

Thanks Graeme, I think I'll fit the same as you, mine also has lowered suspension and I think the slightly narrower tread will do the trick.

On an 18" inch 993, the 265 normally come with a 35 profile and the 285 with a 30 profile, just clarifying in case you have trouble finding a 265/30/18 tyre, I'm not sure they exist!

Yes, Chris, that's the way to go - that 20mm makes all the difference. Factory tyre spec for 18's too, so you'll not go wrong (assuming genuine 18's, correct offsets, etc. See umpteen other strings on here for that info if needed).

Am I right in believing there are two sizes of turbo rear wheels 18x10 and 18x11 for narrow and wide body cars And this determines whether 265 or 285 tyres are fitted??

I just picked up my new car - it is on a set of new Bridgestone N2's. I've not seen these mentioned yet? Any views?
BTW, chuffed to bits with the car!

Aargh! Chris, Maurice, ClubSport et al - just realised I committed the eternal lazy man's error by not going to the garage to check the motor before posting here.
Yes, I'm on 265/35s, NOT 265/30s as I put above. [][]
Apologies for any confusion.
But I was at least right when saying "Factory tyre spec for 18's too, so you'll not go wrong", as I was referring to no rubbing with the factory tyre spec as fitted, namely 265/35/18. :p
While out there I checked further and the rears are on 18 x 10 wheels.
So hope this helps in summary : factory-lowered suspension (M033); factory-spec Turbo twist 18 x 10 wheels (hollow spoke, metal valves); wide body; 265/30/18 tyres (Conti Sport Contact 2 N2s).

I run Bridgestones (have for 10 years) and find them an excellent tyre with great grip and traction. Went to try the Pirellis this year but after reading reviews on a well known American Porsche club site and seeing how much they were over the Bridgestone's even with the PCGB Pirelli offer I thought better of it. They're overlooked a lot, no idea why.

Hi Mike, & B'gad !
The current Bridgestone approval is for S02As, while it was the original S02 for many years. I have used S02s and quite liked them, a little more forgiving than the old Pirelli Assimetricos, but I have never seen feedback on S02As on a 993 over here. The current PZero Rosso is not great IMHO, while I am very happy with Conti Sport Contact 2s currently .. [;)]

cheers, Maurice
Hi Maurice,

I was was being generic about Bridgestones, been on the So2As since they changed and I didn't notice a difference. Got a great deal on a full set this year at £365. Ironically I have Bridgestones on my daily Leon Cupra and they have very poor traction, every ones changing them for Sport Contacts.
