Placed my order

Finally taken the plunge, after being without a Porsche for nearly a year ordered my first 911. Ordered a Carrera 2 Coupe, cant really go to a S, although would have liked to. I'm allegedly down for one of the last June builds so subject to spec should get it in July. Only question now is what spec to go for. The only three must have extras for me are Sports Exhaust, Bose and Bi-Xenon. As for colour would really like Polar Silver but am told wouldn't get one that colour till Dec 06 so probably go for Artic or Black although part of me wants to go Speed Yellow just for fun. Just been reading the 997 Problems thread, can anyone tell me what TMC is
Thanks

TMC stands for 'Traffic Message Channel'. Thro the RDS network you receive details of traffic problems, shown on the PCM screen BUT only if you have Sat Nav. All 997s for MY 06 will have TMC as standard. I personally would strongly urge you to spec Sat Nav, if only for future resale!

Good choice (the S would be worth the extra though!). There are lots of black, grey & silver cars out there - yellow is very personal and could result in a sharp intake of breath at change time. Guards Red looks really good as does Cobalt (now I am slightly biased). The latest sound system is very good -- i couldn't justify the extra for the Bose - but if you like loads of base then go for it!
As Derek says, get the SAT/NAV, it's excellent even without the TMC.

Congrats me23rp.

Might be worth noting though, I think Porsche shuts down for a month in the summer and then reopens and starts making 2007 revision cars, so yours may end up being one of the last of the 2006 ones.

next manufacture year versions will have slight tweaks and possible improvements.

Hi
Hope you have plenty of enjoyment speccing your car - I agree with the Sat-nav and the Xenons - good choice - but the Bose I wouldn't be so quick to choose again. I agree with Graham, the new uprated sound pack is so good, there really isn't too much difference between that and Bose now. Try listening to them both before you buy (if you can). It pains me to say it, as I have the Bose on my 997S.
Mine is in Arctic silver with full Ocean Blue leather and it does look (IMHO) very clean and smart, so that might be a combination to think about and perhaps view if you can get to one.
Parking sensors are a very good idea, and are very discreet too, so no awkward bumper 'warts' any more.
Have fun speccing and anticipating!

I suspect you are correct, it will probably be a MY06. Cars are going the way computers went they have already designed the next version long before they start selling a current version. If I dont take the plunge now then I will end up waiting another year.

Congrats - lots of S around now, nealry new could be the same moeny by July next year.

I know its too early but the Guards Red road test car, with PCCB, is now on sale at Chester OPC for about £57k

Hi

As you can see I have had afew Porsches iover the last 20 years. Each one is better than the previous model in many ways.

I recently (April 2005) changed my 996 cab facelift for a 997 cab with tip. I agonised over the spec when I placed the order . The extras came to about 12k . I thought long and hard about the S. For the average todger like me I doubt the extra performance is that noticeable in every day driving. The red brakes and twin pipes are of course nice.

My 997 feels noticeably quicker than my 3.6 996. With all the sepce including xenons and PASm the total came to 77k. For a car that i drive mainly on dry weekends the extra poke wasn't worth it.

I thoroughly enjoy my car and am sure you will enjoy yours S or not.

Good luck

Well done, what every the spec you will love it.
Guards Red, black leather is the dogs
enjoy...

I have to say I think the Bose is excellent. The car is one of the few places where I can turn the volume up without worrying about it so wanted good quality and compared to the price of premium hifi in some cars I think the cost is reasonable.

Bi xenons have got to be a must have from an ownership perspective and you will find lots of threads about buying other options for resale such as SatNav. But you need to buy the options that you want.

I found it too easy to tick just one more box on the options list, and then another. Its even easier if you finance some of the cost of the car because its 'only' another £10 per month [:D][8|]

Have fun choosing...........

Got my 996 last spring (second hand) and had trouble finding one WITHOUT sat-nav! I'm just never going to use it and suspect that many people who've got it don't either! I realise there are other advantages - phone, etc. - but let's be honest here - are you going to be 'bovered' if you can't talk hands-free in your Porsche? Surely, you'll be enjoying the sound of that flat six roaring away behind you! Get what you want now. Forget about re-sale! Trust me, you're ALWAYS going find people who want / don't want the typical spec - unless you're rich or foolish enough to sell the car back to OPC!! Guaranteed, if you were to choose every single option - apart from crested dust caps - OPC (or any dealer) will find a way to slash the trade in and ruin your day!
