plastic 924 turbo badge panel ?

ORIGINAL: ocallen I bought from Club Autosport about a year ago a 924 turbo badge panel with the four ducts. Unfortunately it didn't come with the black louvres fitted and it looks as if they took it out of the donor car by pulling it out with a JCB. Obviously it was welded in and not bolted. I'm hoping that somebody can fit it into my lux front end without too much trauma and can tidy up the ripped metal ! Has anybody any experience of this conversion and any advice to give please ?
Yes your correct in saying the badge panels are welded in the 924,s... Typical of C-auto,s... Do you need any of the small plastic ducts.?? As i have 4 in my garage... I bought them , to do just the same job, but on a S2 badge panel... As ever, never got round to fitting them, + the cars gone, So they are spare... Open to offers.. What are they worth.???? Yes i do have lots of small bits + bobs in my garage...[;)][:D][8|][8|] It needs a clear out...

On mine I drilled out the welds on the donor panel, filled the holes and then drilled the 4 holes on the top to match up with the ones on the car. It was very straight forward albeit incredibly tedious, there were a lot of welds! I'd recommend grabbing those vents off Dave, they are becoming a bit of a rarity as they were discontinued years ago.

924s and series one 944s have weld on badge panels: series two cars have bolt on badge panels (and for anyone rushing for their PET, the weld on part is no longer available and its been superceded by a bolt on 944 part, hence the 944 part number on the 1979 924 fiche).

If its still available then itll be a weld on part. Im not sure whats available right now though. When I last bought a badge panel in 1994 it cost about £150 and the they only supplied the series two part. The part number for a 931 part is 477805593A, but when checked it it didnt seem to be available, even though its listed on PET.

In 2004 brand new from Porsche these plastic inserts were £3.95 plus vat. I bought one for my 924 turbo.

'Well made & fits properly': possibly. They all seem to have flat cut outs for the vents though, rather than the correct rpofile. If you look at a close up picture of an original ythen youll see what I mean.

Much as it pains Paul for me to say this: Porscheshop arent great and Id look elswhere. £350 is beyond ridiculous (as is adding £12:50 to the cost of a can of locally sourced paint and selling it on to people who dont know any better).

There was a post within the last month about a company in Germany selling plastic and GRP body parts. This definatley included 924 Turbo badge panels and IIRC they were around £100. A quick search back should find it

Found it http://teilecar.com/?karosserie-gfk,2&sLang=en 90 Euros. They advertise on Ebay quite regulalry and the shipping was very reasonable (under £40)

I didnt suggest that part because, reasonable as they appear to be, its a flat panel with cut outs; as opposed to moulded recesses. This doesnt matter if the OEM grilles fit, but I dont think that they will. I last really thought about this 15yrs ago when I wanted to fit grilles into four cut outs in my hilclimbers badge panel, but Im confident that the problem will remain...

You can see what I mean to some degree here.
