Does anyone know if it is possible to purchase clear stone guard protection sheets that can be cut to fit,I have seen an advert for a professional to come and fit some but I want to buy only.

The film used by most stone chip protection companies is made by 3M, It is sold by their automotive division as stone guard, however exactly the same film is sold by their commercial graphics division They thinnest vinyl is called 100 series which is a little thinner than the stuff on the 944 wheel arches but if you ring them they will be able to advise on the different thicknesses. The commercial graphics department is based in Manchester.

3M will not sell it direct but will put you in touch with a supplier near you. Alternately, just find a sign manufacturer near you and ask for a sheet of clear vinyl.

Great thanks for that one Peter![;)]

The best known pro outfit who do the fitting is called Armourfend, and cost a fortune.

It's good stuff (and I think they use 3M materials) but costs a fortune (and has hideously delayed the repair of my S2 of late.) If you can get the stuff and cut it to fit then you could be onto a winner. BUT, beware, if you want to cover the whole of the front of the car then the cutting will need to be precise and careful.

I bought some off cuts of varying sizes on fleebay. Yet to fit as the car is in for a bit of paint & suspension work this week.

I can also recommend the Foliatech film if you need it in a hurry as you can buy it from Halfords and other places. I've used it to cover my lights for many years and its done a great job. It doesn't seem as stiff/thick as the normal film though so I suspect it will suit different jobs.
Best regards,
Peter
