Plate lift replacement parts

Morning All !

I had a long session over the weekend on the Turbo and pulled apart a number of different parts.

Looks as though there may be some plate lift on the front calipers (Medium Blacks = M030 944 radially mounted)

Any recommendations as to where/who to buy the plates and most importantly the hex screws to secure them ?

thanks

Chris

I picked up some domed SS allen key bolts in Screwfix, about £4 for a hundred, put them in with some copper ease so I can get them back out, also used them around other areas too. Think you need eight. Happy to send some over if you shoot me your address.

^^^ Wot Paul Sed. Any A2 stainless screws of the rigth size will do the job, and Screwfix do them as readily as anyone else.

I'm quite happy to shove a handful in a jiffy bag to you if you want them Chris.

Oli.

I bought hex heads from RS Components, cheap as chips ! as said re-use the plates you need to clean the crap out from underneath them.

Ken

there seems to be an issue with our exchange of PM's - if neither of the emails or PM's get through to you,

Use standard screws not stainless to discourage anodic corrosion. As already said just clean the plates.

Not necessarily the best method-even Porsche screws are zinc plated but main reasons for difficulty getting them out are:_

a)A thread lock is used originally-this needs heat to soften it .

b)The heat generated in this area eventually softens the mild steel, which when combined with erosion of the screw head & the threadlock material allows the spanner/allen key to lose grip.

I recommend A2 SS replacements, well anti -seize coated with a small area at the plain end left for Loctite .

it's a good idea to check these fasteners & the plates each time pads are changed--I agree with cleaning the existing plates but also a good idea to flatten & straighten them with a trial fit before refitting them after cleaning up & repainting the calliper ledges & then using plenty of isolating compound under the plates -cathodic corrosion only takes place where there is bare aluminium.
