Playing MP3 discs in 997

Hi,

I've recently bought a 2005 997 C2S Cab and at the weekend I excitedly put together 2 discs with MP3 files.

However the PCM unit won't play them saying it isn't an Audio disc.

My OPC say that I can't update the software for PCM as my PCM has the 'old style reader' that won't read discs with MP3 files on it.

Does anyone else with a 2005 car play MP3 files via CD through the PCM?

Hasan,

Keen to see the answers to this one, i have an update disk that is meant to upgrade the headunit to the latest mp3 player but i am reluctant to do so.

i am going to follow this post with interest,

Let me know if you get anywhere with it.

My old June 2005 build C2S Cab played MP3 disks just fine through the PCM (not the CD changer though).

Alex,

Had you updated your PCM by having a later Navigation disc (Which comes with Software Updates?)

My car is an April 2005, so only 2 months difference between your old car.....

I bought the car from OPC West London in Nov 2005 and they updated the PCM for me before I drove the car away.

Perhaps as the car was built in June 2005 it was classed as MY06?

My car was a Feb 2005 build and does not have Satnav. It may have been when the CD slot changed to a DVD that MP3's could be played.

I have just found this quote from a Rennteam contributor:

"If you have a car with a PCM 2.0 unit before April/May 2005, there is indeed no way you could get MP3 playing capability. The software upgrade to version 3.0 will prepare the PCM for the new SatNav features and disk, but won't add MP3s"

Can't believe my bad luck....looks like I'll have to retrofit a CD changer [&o]

Putting in a Porsche iPod connector (assuming that's compatible) may be cheaper than a CD multiplayer

better still get an i pod kit which will enable you to control the ipod through the screen. The Porsche i pod kit does not provide a power supply and is too expensive.

Quick question, i have a 2007 (MY2008) 997 C4S with full pcm and cd changer etc. Will i be able to play MP3 through the changer or only from the in car slot?

Any help much appreciated.

PAF

Your car must be post April 2005?

Yes its a july 2005 , funny thing is I never realised until I had owned it a year and read on here about mp3s that it supports them

My neighbours boxster is a 2005 and the pcm looks identical but his does not play them

I found that the PCM plays all formats of MP3, my wifes VW will not play ones that work quite happily in my car [&:]
At least it means she didn't 'borrow' my music .. [;)]

garyw

My C4S 2006 plays MP3 disks no bother, just found this out otherwise I would have never fitted a mo-bridge
