Just returned from a 10 day trip through France to Swiss Alps - first really long trip I have done since purchase last year. Spent a lot on getting car right over last few months but it paid off with a trouble free trip of over 1,700 miles. Brim to brim fuel consumption was 27.1 mpg for trip at French Autoroute speed which I thought was excellent.

Even more surprising was the oil consumption - I took a litre of Mobil 1 with me but didn't have to open it. It used no oil whatsoever and I got a bit concerned and checked it at every fuel stop !!! It's always been pretty good on oil and I had the RMS changed when the clutch was done recently so perhaps this improved it further.

Anyway, I was mighty pleased with it and the wife even said how comfortable it was for such a long trip !! Result....
 
To echo John's sentiments, I recently did a smaller-scale trip - a weekend in Norfolk. Three up (with wife and 11 year-old daughter), luggage for two nights plus suitably warm outdoor clothing. 993 accommodated us and all our stuff, daughter sat uncomplainingly in the back, 28-29 mpg and I had 500+ miles of sheer driving pleasure. There are some super roads around the Broads, and not too much traffic in early March...

What a car, and still comparing favourably with machinery 10+ years younger.
