Am looking at a non Varioram 993 C2. It has an alloy insert in the air intake - what is significance of this?

Any info. welcomed.

Andrew

Sounds like it's Porsche's Motorsound airbox lid - it also has extra holes in it (at the far end of the lid) which gives a bit more induction noise when the engine is under load.

Quite a popular modification. I picked up mine recently for £60 off ebay.

Yes it will be the Motorsound pack. Most were added by owners at later dates and it just includes the slightly different airbox with chrome and makes a slightly better induction sound. It could be orered from the factory when the car was first delivered and if I remember rightly, if you did this you also got different tail pipe tips to look a bit more sporty. It didn't add any bhp and in truth doesn't make ant significant improvement in sound but any little helps.

Others will no doubt confirm the accurancy (or otherwise) of this post.

That's right. Mine were factory fitted. Tailpipes definitely look better - i.e. larger/more open (in fact, they look very similar to the tailpipes on the most recent Audi RS4).

has nayone got a pic of the wider tail pipes. ? my C2s has a factory fitted motorsound airbox the tail pipes look kind of std ?

Gresley,
Forget Ebay. I bought mine form local PC for about £50. Some PCs offer Club members discount.

Surinder - the motorsound tips are the big ovals so if yours are the squared off type they are standard.

I think you could order the intake without the tips so this might explain it.

So is the "normal" air intake non-chrome? (eg plastic?)

Maybe I have the Motorsound kit and did not realise[:)]

factory-fitted Motorsound pack cars will have option code 159 (under bonnet sticker/handbook) -also believe mufflers are different (free-flow) ...
