Pollen filter

Hi everyone,

I have just bought my first 996 C4 Cabrio.
I eventually 'upgraded' from my old 964 C4 Targa.

I have been having a look around and am unsure whether I have a missing peice of trim or the wrong pollen filter fitted.

On the left side of the housing, there is a plastic clip setup which I assume retaims the filter in place.
With the clip in the 'closed' position, it is no where near the filter which causes the filter to remain insecure.

There is no top cover for the filter and I can't see how this clip works.

Is there any chance that someone could post a picture of the pollen filter in situ, so that I can confirm exactly what is wrong.

Second fault is de-gassed air con.
I understand that the condensers are prone to damage due to location.
Can anyone advise if there are any other common areas of concern other than the condenser rads that are prone to leakage or damage.

Many thanks
Dave

Welcome Dave!

Here's a picture of the filter from our DIY pages:

You can't quite see the clip on the left, but it just catches the top of the filter.

As for aircon leaks, the most common cause is rotted out condensers, where the debris gathers, and occasionally from damaged pipes when the car hasn't been jacked up correctly.

Hi Richard,

Many thanks for the quick reply and the information.

Can you remember on your filter is there anything actually keeping the filter inplace on the left hand side.
It does appear to locate on the right but nothing on mine holds the other side down or tight against the housing.

I will take a picture of the clip in the daylight tomorrow and post when I get chance.

I suspect the condensers are the issue here - good job it's covered under a warranty.

Thanks once again
Dave.

Hi Richard,

Sorry for the delay getting a picture.
This is a pic of the pollen filter and the clip.

As you can see, the clip doesn't hold the filter in place - not sure if something is missing or bent?

Any ideas?
I'm currently holding it down with masking tape

Thanks Richard.
Doesn't seen right that something designed and engineered by the Germans doesn't actually have a purpose.

If that,s the way it is, great - at least it is something that doesn't need replacing.

And with the clip closed. Well, kinda. It just about holds it on mine, but like you say, it isn't very good. Mine is an aftermarket filter though, so that might explain it.

Hi Richard,

Thanks very much for taking the time to post pics.
I guess mine is aftermarket as well, as you say, that may answer the question as to more quite doingthe job.

At least I know that mine is no different that oters out there.

Thanks again, I'll go and find something else to worry about now. [:)]
