POOR FITTING EXHAUST

I recently had a couple of silencers fitted to my C4 and although the near-side one fits perfectly, the off-side one does not. The outlet pipe sits too high and extends towards the bumper too far, resulting in the tip not being able to be fitted properly.

The company that supplied them sent me a replacement for the off-side but this doesn't really fit any better.

It seems to me that the right hand silencers have not been manufactured correctly with the pipe that connects to the cat being a bit too long, causing the box to rotate slightly on the hook support and thereby moving the end of the outlet pipe up and closer to the bumper. Alternatively either the cat or the bracket that supports the box isn't positioned correctly. However, the original exhaust fitted perfectly, so I can't see it being that but unfortunately the outlet pipe has been broken off the old off-side one so I can not make a direct comparison.

I'm going to contact the company on Monday but has anyone experienced a similar problem with replacement exhausts?

Those are made in China.
I once had to fit a set of 996 ones with the same problem.
I finally ended up cutting and re-welding the outgoing pipe.

That's really the confirmation I was after, I was beginning to think that there was something amiss with the car.

One of the Scottish forum guys recommended a place (Stainless Creations in Falkirk) who reckon they can alter the box to fit pretty easily. They seem to know their stuff and also said that, apart from the fact that the right side is slightly out, they are well made so I don't see any point in sending them back. Plus I like the noise they make - just slightly louder than stock.

I should also say that Design 911 are picking up the tab for the cost of the alterations, so top marks for customer service.

Send them back and put RSRs from Gert ,not a good start for a new purchase is it!

Agree it's not ideal but Design 911 have handled it quite well and I didn't want RSR's, which is why I didn't go for them in the first place. Horses for courses, etc.

You had better not look at Pistonheads!

I saw the final part of the Design 911 saga that I presume you're referring to on PH here before it was pulled. Some of the earlier comments were interesting too.

I can obviously only comment on my experience with them and it has been fine so far. For example, Karl phoned me to tell me that my order would be delayed due to the snow the Midlands experienced at the time of my order, this was obviously a courier issue and outwith their control but it's nice to be told personally. They also sent out a replacement box for me to try without me first having to return the first one they sent.

I have read just as many horrer stories about OPC's on various forums, including this one, over the years as are in the thread on PH and have experienced it first hand numerous times.
