Poor Heated Rear Screen

Having put the hardtop back on and the weather getting worse I have noticed again that the heated rear screen really is quite poor. On an hours drive last night it failed to clear the screen.

I had this checked under warranty last year but they said it was fine/normal, but surely I should expect the winscreen to actually clear ?

This may seem to be a silly comment, but is the screen really clean? If the screen isn't well polished there's a good chance that the heater won't do its job properly. Just a thought.

Try & get the use of a multimeter , set it to volts. With engine running & HRW turned on check that you have at least 12 V going into the screen and just as important 0 V going down the earth wire.Cheers.

Where's the contact point between the HRW circuit in the car, and the HRW on the hard top?

Hi There you only need to gently touch each side of the heater elements which run across the screen. One side should have 12V and the other 0V. If you have 12V at both sides then the earth wire is broken ( If so I will tell you where to look) if this is the case the HRW will not work at all but the switch & warning light could. If there is some voltage down the earth IE 5 or 6 V then there is a poor earth . Good luck & let me know.
