Poor hot starting......

Over the past couple of weeks, my S.2 has developed a tendency not to start in the hot weather. Car sits in the sun most of
the day, first time I tried was mid afternoon and it refused to start at all and had to leave it - started first time next morning.

Last week, started fine, drove 1/2 mile to petrol station, filled up, car wouldn't start. Left on forecourt whilst I went shopping for
20 mins, came back and started first time!

Yesterday, tried to start at lunch time for first time(sitting in sun all morning), not having it. Tried again in the cool of the evening
and the bu@@er started on the first turn! []

I've also noticed hunting on tick over before the engine's fully warmed up, revs fluctuating between 800-1000 RPM.

With all this in mine, do the panel have any suggestions? My best guess would be the DME relay which as far as I know is original
and I think I'd best replace that as a matter of course.

If it's not been changed in your ownership it's the first place to look!

I have a similar problem, as many who have helped know, we have resorted to bumping it down the pit lane! The starter motor just does not turn it over when hot.

Is there a recommended "Hi Torque" replacement starter motor? If so can someone point out where to buy?

My old starter motor would turn V.E.R.Y slowly when hot or sometimes not turn at all when it was hot. It was last reconditioned about 12 years ago.

I fitted a new starter last month and now it spins like a dream whether red hot or stone cold [:)]

Sorry, didn't explain properly - starter motor always turns over fine. In fact, it usually fires on second turn of the starter, seems to have improved since
I've been dosing the fuel with Redex injector cleaner(but that could be my imagination).

My money's still on the DME, so I'm ordering one today. Out of curiosity, I might then take the old one apart and see if I can find a dry joint or burnt contacts.
