Poor Reception - Becker Traffic Pro

Hi all,

I've recently bought a 968 and am loving it!
One thing I'm not loving quite so much is the fact that reception on the stereo is terrible! It's got the Becker Traffic Pro head unit, which I believe to be original, but it will only find really strong FM signals and will generally only ever find one station when seeking, if that!
Before I think about getting a new stereo (as the sound quality of the Becker is awesome) does anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing the rubbish reception?
To avoid the obvious, the arial is still on the roof and seems to be fine.

Cheers,

The roof aerial is of the powered variety .
They have been known to fail .
I personally havnt had any problems with it , but i do know of a few other folk who have, im sure theyl be along soon to help you out...

I had the same problem on a 968, where the booster was not powered, if I remember correctly it is a thin black wire which needs to be powered from the stereo.

The 944turbo had a gold wire in the screen and when I changed the stereo I made the same mistake so it was easily identified during the install.

No doubt if my wires are crossed someone will correct me.

Exactly right about the 944 and I'm guessing the same goes for the 968 even with the external aerial.
It should be powered as said from the head unit, usually a blue wire.

The 968 is a powered aerial with a small booster in the bass. If you can only get strong FM signals and no mw/lw signals the most likely problem is the aerial. Check that the power is connected first, if it is then a new aerial is the only solution to restore good signals.

Thanks all! I've ordered a set of the removal tools off eBay so will check the wiring as soon as those arrive. Fingers crossed that'll fix it!

All fixed! Not entirely sure what the problem was as all wires were connected. In-plugging and re-connecting the multi-pins appears to have done the trick, so I guess there was a loose/poor connection or something!
Cheers,
Tom
