Poor running

Hello people
Ive just bought a 1985 944 fitted with a 2.7 16v engine.
The problem is that it is soo guttless. It runs fines, doesnt miss a beat, will go all the way thro the rev range with missing, but when you put your foot down it just doesnt go!! It has no torque at all. Seems to run better above 4000rpm. It felt like the cam timing was wrong, but we have checked that and it seems fine. We are going to look at the AFM and Fuel pressure regulator next. Are we going in the right direction? Has anyone had this prob before and can offer advice?
It also starts badly, you have to put your foot down to catch it when it first starts or it wont go. Ive got the knack now, but it needs to be right.
Cheers

Are you sure it's a 2.7 16 valver? If so that's a bitsa engine as the S is a 2.5 16v and the S2 is a 3.0 16v. The very short run of 2.7 cars were 8v.[FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]If it is a bitsa then it could be a tricky one to resolve, even if it isn't and it's a 16v engine in an '85 car it could have the wrong ECU for the motor.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Do you know much about the conversion?[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Would there be such a thiong as the right ECU for that combination Fen? Wouldn't it need some sort of custom ECU, or do you thing that you could make an S or S2 ECu work?

My 944S is a bit low on power. I need to get it on a rolling road really to get it all running right. On the other hand, even if it's running at 100% it would still feel slow in comparison to a more modern car.

I meant it might have the wrong ECU if it's an S or S2 engine. If it's a hybrind of some sort then it will need a custom map I'd say.

What other cars are you comparing it with? 944s are not exactly missile like compared with many modern cars. I would get it tested on a rolling road before pulling it apart. A 2.7 should have 165bhp
