Poorly Turbo

I seem to have a problem with my 997 Turbo. I've noticed today a different sound from the engine - an increased induction type noise. Also, when I put my foot down, there appears to be a flat spot after 3,000rpm and the car won't pick up and doesn't accelerate well. Any ideas, before I contact my local OPC on Monday?

Cheers

Rich

If you open the 'boot', you'll see a large (about 5 or 6 cm diameter) black rubber air pipe on top of the engine running forwards from the junction of the 'Y' shaped air pipes. That rubber air hose can sometimes split, or the large jubiliee clip holding it secure can come loose, either of which will produce exactly the symptoms you describe. Failing that you can check the intercooler air pipes as they sometimes come loose - look under the rear of the car, outboard of the exhausts, and you should see them. Good luck and I hope that sorts it!

Thanks John.
Have checked all hoses that you mention, and as far as I can see, they all look fine.

Gary how do I check the VTG on the turbo?

There is a valves/actuator with rods linking to the Turbos (new they are silver but after mileage they cold be any colour), they can become disconnected or seize- there was a recall a few years back for them seizing up with the road dirt.
Mine did and the sound changed along with the total lack of power! a bit scary pulling out of the junction when it happened. [&:]

All you can do is check the rods and actuator as that's external, after that its a trip to the dealer.

Maybe it's the old sticky variable vane problem and needs a squirt of magic juice into the turbos? I'm surprised it hasn't come up with an engine management fault light though? Maybe a fault reader is the best bet Rich.

Arghh - I know I have had this problem but it was a long while ago when cars had carburettors (showing my age here).

Have you checked the MAF or fuel pump(s)? Could it be a fuelling issue - low or no pressure?

(Excuse my ignorance of the inner workings of the fabled Turbo on this occasion!)

Turned out to be a disconnected actuator rod that had to be replaced.

All fixed under warranty.[:)] Car running perfect again.

Thankyou all.

Pleased to hear it's sorted Rich [:)]
It's a bit of a shocker when they're not working isn't it :ROFLMAO:
