pop ups won't pop down

So I gave one of the pods a bang with and they both dutifully folded in.

Which bit do I WD40?

Or all the bearing sufaces that look like they're 'rose-jointed'. My preference would be to use motocycle chain lube, but other may not agree.

If lubricating things does not work it could be the headlight motor. Later 924 and the 944 have the same motor. Inside the motor are contact switches which are leaf springs on a little "race track" that tell the motor where to start and stop. If the contact points get oiled or corroded up you can lose the electrical connection.

The fact that you gave the buckets a bang and they went down makes me wonder if the corroded contacts may be the problem and the bang made a better contact for the moment. All you need to do is take the motor off and apart and clean up the contact points.
 
I can't help.........except to say that's why they are called POPUPS and not popdowns [:D]
