Thansk to Sue/Mac and Fred for organising an excellent inaugural "Porkers in the Trough" scenic drive and picnic event today. Thansk to the entrants who came from as far away as Dorset and Newcastle, as well at R18 and R5. The rain the the Yorkshire area, when we were at the Birds of Prey Centre for lunch and flying display, did not dampen our enthusiasm.

Thanks to our sponsors Porschapart and to Tony Bolton of Autografix who produced the rally plates, and to Garstang Golf Club for their hospitality.

Also thanks to Lancashire Magazine who sent a reporter and photographer who were with us all day and travlled with us. They will be publishing a full article about the event in September's edition which will be on sale mid August.

A special thanks to all the entrants who made donations to Rosemere Cancer Foundation. As soon as I get the total amount donated I will let you all know.

Feeling a little tired this morning after yesterday's exertions, but also feeling quite pleased that the event went well. The weather punished us for crossing the great divide into Yorkshire, and their police force also decided to make us welcome on the A65, but apart from that most folks seemed to have had a great time. It was particularly galling to arrive home (to Blackpool) to find everywhere bone dry and to discover that the sun had been shining for several hours. David has already thanked those who assisted us, but particular thanks must go to Simon Butterworth, our sponsor, who joined us on the day, and without any prompting has agreed sponsorship for the next year's event, (will there be one ?) Answers on a post card please. We all had tales to tell about the day, and even with tulip maps and written instructions, there were several wrong turns, including those by Mac and I. How embarassing!! Lots of good natured teasing followed those particular mistakes. Prizes were awarded to the following people, who completed the full event by returning to Garstang. 1. Highest mileage Porsche......Trevor & Debbie Roberts........157,250 miles. 2. Combined ages of car & passenger......Peter & Pat Waggett.......170 years. 3. Car with most flies.........Greg & Deborah Harm....driven down from Northumberland. 4. Family Porsche......George Diane & Olivia Thackray......in their 944 convertible. 5. Furthest travelled....Steve & Doreen Walker.....From Wimborne in Dorset..330 miles. 6. Car of the Event chosen by the staff of the Falconry Centre......Simon Makinson....Boxster S. Congratulations to them all. Thankyou to everyone who took part. I must admit I actually think it was worth it.!!! Sue

Thanks Sue and Mac for a brilliant day out - R18 at its best. Superbly organized and thoroughly enjoyable. Looking forward to next year's (but might have to blag a 4 seater Porsche from someone!)

Another Vote of Thanks to Sue & Mac ,Fred & sponsors for a superb day really well organised-, unfortunately, I was in" plain clothes" for the day but enjoyed acting as camera car with Linda riding Shotgun-at least we were expecting & avoided the Fuzz radar. Have to procure another Porker for these events. Cheers, Colin.

I passed the Feds at approx 40mph wearing a big smile... he seemed somewhat disappointed [&:] [;)] So Colin, where the pics?? garyw

Gary, Linda was taking pics to accompany a feature article to be written by Alex(the younger blonde girl) who rode with someone else,to be published in The Lancashire magazine September edition-we will have to make sure you "foreigners" have access to the article. Cheers, Colin. Hopefully, other members will post their jpegs.

So, thanks to everyone for making it such a great day out, the amount of planning was obvious with a great route, stunning scenery and excellent directions (we didn't go wrong!). We spotted the Yorkshire bobbies - they seemed to be concentrating on a Ford Focus that went past us so that was OK, and because they were watching the Focus, they couldn't have read my lips ;-) There are more photos here.... http://s203.photobucket.com/albums/aa29/geeeteee/Porkers%20in%20the%20Trough%202010/?albumview=slideshow

Thanks George for the wonderful photographs. I think they capture the spirit of the day brilliantly. The bird pictures are stunning. If Colin is going to get another Porsche to attend these events, it looks as if there will have to be a Porkers in the Trough 2. We wouldn't want to let him down now would we ? Sue & Mac

oi oi! If anyone else had posted that, I would assume that it had been written innocently. Colin, us BMW boys will really have to try harder. Maddie has asked me to get a "KN" for next year's event.

White 944 (fly splattered ) award winning Cab LOL.

Glad you enjoyed it Greg. Thankyou very much for your compliments. Plans are already afoot for next year's event, and looking at some other threads on the matter it looks as if we might have to include Pendle and beyond. Now we know how "easy" it is to put together this type of run, we intend to expand the next one, and raise the number of entrants. We look forward to seeing you soon. Mac & Sue
