Porsche 111 Point Check

All,

I am inquiring about a GT3 and dealer suggested it goes through a Porsche 111 point check instead of independent inspection.

Any experience / views on whether this 111 inspection is adequate or if any specific checks (particularly for GT3) need to be added to this to give peace of mind for my potential purchase?

Obviously I will also inspect car myself but any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Steve

In my opinion the 111 point check is not as comprehensive as the examination and report you'd get from privately commissioned PPI. That said if it passes the 111 point check the dealer will put a 2 year warranty on it so you'd be covered anyway. I've bought all my cars from OPC and only the first 1 was plagued by problems, all were sorted under warranty but I think they would have been picked up on a PPI and I may not have bought it in the first place.

I agree with above. If you want a warranty get the inspection, but it's totally inadequate otherwise and unless you count redundant checks such as 'roof rack' then it's actually much lower than 111 points.

Get JZM/JAZ/PARR/Morgan to inspect the car depending on where you are

Hi,
When I bought mine 2 years ago I had the 111 point check at Porsche Hatfield at a cost of around £202 took 21/2hours and they produced a printed list of things they found which was very anal, if thats the word, very comprehensive and answered any questions they could about the car.
Even reported a sticking ash tray lid!
Showed me what was on the cars computer even the engine mileage, no over revs did not expect any as its a Tip.
Found it very good and as usual forgot some of the stuff to ask so went back next day to talk to the 2 enineers that did the check without any quibbles of charge.
Found them very open and told me what really needed doing, those items that could wait and those that they would have to do if they sold the car.
Allowed me to haggle with the seller and cover the cost of repairs etc.

When I put it into my indi for a full service and some of the items requiring attention he also checked it over and concured with Hatfield.

Theres no guarrantee with any inspection but worth the money I thought.

The thing is that with a GT3 you want to be vigilant for accident damage etc and not really bothered about most of the items on a 111 point check that perhaps you would be when inspecting any other car.
That's why it's important to give it to one of the indis I mentioned above who have a lot of experience with GT3s.

I have only ever had one done on a 3.2 Carrera I was interested in buying in Aberdeen. The OPC mechanic really knew what he was looking for, and gave me a good report on what I wanted to know. I have to say I was lucky to find one who knew his onions on a 23 year old car. It was £200-ish well spent, and saved me the aggro of going to Aberdeen and being disappointed. I agree with the above though - if you don't want the warranty, an independent inspector will do a more comprehensive exam. Not too many in Aberdeen though, so I didn't get much choice.

Go to an indpendant Porsche specialist that knows GT3' will probably charge you 2 hours labour. You will get a more thorough examination than an OPC or Peter Morgan.

+ 1 for Peter Morgan,

Used them when I bought my car last year.

However, as mentioned above, the inspection is no guarentee. My water pump went five days after i bought the car and it wasn't picked up on the report as there were no signs of weeping etc.

The report produced is very good and helped me make the decision the buy the car. I was there when the inspection was taking place so it was good to talk to them about any questions i had.

I agree with some of the comments here. I had 111 point inspection by opc when I bought my car. They picked up on silly things like quoting on a full set of tyres even though they were at 7mm, an entire steering rack at 1.5k because of a split clip, washers facing incorrectly, incorrect wipers etc. I bought the car got it home, went under it myself and found the leaky aos pipe, leaky plug tubes, and other bits they hadn't mentioned and fixed it myself.

I'd say it's totally inadequate if just relying on that to give an all clear when buying a car, but if it will come with a warrantee and it satisfies them then I guess that is a different story.

Cheers

Isn't the 111 check spesific to each model?

Anyway with so many OPC's in the UK there's bound to be differences, I would certainly pick one that has a good reputation and has the largest variety of cars going through their system. When I go to mine I always ask for one of two mechanics that I know are 110%, just dropping of the car because it says "Porsche" outside is never gonna happen. [;)]
