Porsche 1968 911S restoration begins

Hello all,

Here's my new project, its a 1968 911S which seems to have been restored as a LWB 911 at some point in its life. Its been for sale down at Nick Moss's place for a little while but I popped down there a few weeks back and we worked out a deal. Whilst the car was down there I got Nick to alter the rear wings back to SWB and fit a new tank support panel as well as buying a few panels which will give me a bit of a head start on the resto. Anyway it got delivered at the weekend, now mid resto its looking a little worse for wear, LWB suspension under primered SWB rear fenders, no front wings and no bumpers. So the wife as you can expect wasnt too impressed with my new purchase!

Its currently fitted with a late 70's interior which I'm in the process of stripping and eventually replacing with an original 68 interior which Ive managed to piece together.

All being well Ive got hold of a pair of SWB front wings today so I'm quite chuffed, I'm eventually going to put her in for a full respray back to her original Metalic Silver.

I'll post some more pics soon as she progresses.

Making fast progress at the moment which is good, Ive been very lucky with parts, having a rusty 68 912 donor has helped a great deal.

if thats the car in the pic its got a fantastic shine to it

dont forget to post pics and some info on how its going

good luck

steve

It was almost a shame, to pull her apart to put her right, it got a nice solid body, but it will be worth it when it's back to original. I'm a fan of silver so it was very lucky that it was the original colour of the car. Does anyone know who to contact now to get the original build sheet/kardex for the car? IT used to be AFN for UK cars before they were bought out by Porsche but this ones french?

Love the car . . . will be alot more desirable in silver.

To obtain a "˜Letter of Origin' which confirms the date your car was manufactured (and hopefully the options) you need to write to:

Warranties Department
Porsche Centre Reading
Bath Road
Calcot
Reading
Berkshire
RG31 7SG

Enclosing:
ú A photocopy of the bill of sale or receipt (e.g. a letter detailing the chassis number, showing that you have bought the car)
ú A photocopy of the Registration document.
ú A cheque for £64.62.

Some people have been a little disappointed with what comes back (for the money) . . . I've also heard of people getting information for free by being nice over the phone (worth a try).

Thanks Phil,

Just the info I needed, Its got to be worth a punt but it could open up a can of worms, like finding early recaro's and other bank balance draining accessories [:D]

Those links at the bottom of your post . . . is that your site . . . always refer people to it. Do you realise that's my car in your 911 buyers guide (with all the dots on showing rust areas) . . . I could have you for that [;)]. . . my car's rust free.

LOL, yes its my site, didnt realise it was your car though [:)], I picked it for the angle of the picture not the body condition....honest.

Lovely early 911 you have there.
