Porsche 944 Fantasy Prices

A lot of comments recently about how a 944 Turbo will never sell for more than £12,000 even if it is immaculate, low mileage and with a full Service History.......

Well my 944 Turbo has just sold for a lot more than £12,000 to the first viewer of the car who couldn't fault it for appearance, driving style, history or preparation.

Is this a Fantasy...... NO THIS IS REALITY [:D]

Great news mate, although sad to see a stunning car leave our area, had to bite my lip at some of the comments last night as we both knew your deal was on the table today.

Proof if needed of a rising market and buyers willing to pay the right money.

Cheers lads, the new owner has a few cars in his collection (Ferraris, Porsche, Aston Martin) and buys excellent condition examples or Limited Edition models as he sees them as a better investment than Bank Interest.

He left my home with a BIG grin on his face which makes me feel even happier that it is going to someone who will appreciate the car and his 300 mile drive home [:D]

Congrats Martin, very pleased for you, your car was well looked after and lovingly cared for. However not all the cars listed on pistonheads at a similar price have quite the same pedigree your car has/had.

It's all about knowledge of the market and there are very few at that level, hope you get something else that drives just as well.

Thanks Jase, I have sold a second Porsche today as well [:-]

I am currently progressing on a couple of cars that fit my wish list and will update when I have hopefully secured one of them [;)]

And yes it will be a Porsche [:)]

968 CS? 993 of some description? [8|]

Just guessing, but you seem to pick cars that will only go upwards! [:D]

I would love a 968 Turbo S but availability and price make me think that this won't be happening anytime soon [:(]

I won't give any clues until I am closer to a purchase, but it is a rare car [;)]

Sorry Martin but I missed last nights fun. Why is a 944 not worth more than 12 k ?
If 964's are going for 25-35k then why can't a 944 ? It wasn't that long ago you could get a 964 for pennies. They were slagged off for leaking engines high service costs. Now I personally love 964's and think are great cars. But a 44 turbo or even an S2 is arguably a better car. Just because it's not a 911 doesn't mean it's not worth good money.

I don't think they are ever going to be worth as much for two reasons:

1) I don't ever recall a time in the past when a secondhand turbo and a 964 C2 where worth about the same.
2) Whilst they could be argued to be better none of them are in a way which counts for the classic sports car market e.g. sound, iconic looks, feel

Having said all that it is nothing short of perverse that a car like the SC which for a very long time tracked S2 and less than minty turbo prices has in the last 2 years gone up to 2x to 3x the price if one can find a minty one. I actually turned down a perfect condition lower miles SC back in 2010 at £10K because I was a little short, the owner wouldn't budge and I thought it was a little pricey, wadamistakatomaka in hindsight (white with black interior as well). I damn well knew they were going to rise as well but had blown the money starting up racing. Oh well.
