I am purchasing a set of 17" Boxster alloys for my 1990 944 S2 Cabriolet this weekend.
Measurements are:
Fronts- ET47 225/40/zR17 7.5j
Rears- ET52 225/45/ZR17 9j
5x130

Will they fit as standard?

Hi, What wheels do you currently have on the OE 16" D90's ?
Is the rear tyre size you've quoted correct @ 225 ?

The comparison from D90 wheels is:

Front
205/55/16 7x16 Et55 v 225/40/17 7.5x17 Et47
This 17" Tyre size is smaller in height and circumference, the correct size is 225/45/17
The extra 1/2" wider rim is distributed all on the outer rim, so these will stick out the arches by 13.5mm and away from the inside strut by 1mm

Rear
225/50/16 8x16 Et52 v 225/45/17 9x17 ET52
The tyre rolling circumference is spot on but the Section width of tyre 225mm too narrow for the 9" Rim width, and the handling will
be affected the ideal tyre size used on these transaxles is 255/40/17
The extra 1" Rim width is distributed evenly with this wheel being 12.5mm further towards the inside arch and also 12.5mm sticking out

The 17" Wheel set will be heavier (Potentially 20kg set) than the 16's and hence acceleration will be reduced, steering effort heavier and the ride compliance reduced on smaller height tyre profiles, with a Cabrio you'll feel such changes more than a fixed cope chassis due to the losses in chassis rigidity etc..

Hi,

Thanks a lot for your response! It is really helpful and informative.

So to confirm, these set of wheels especially the fronts are no way going to fit the 944 Cab as they stick out of the arches by 13mm? So I would need to roll out the arches?

I dont understand why many are saying that they would fit.

Thanks
Hassan

Yes they all will fit and I don't think they'll catch on anything, but the rear tyres want to go on the front rims and you need new rear tyres (255/40/17)

You'll have Power steering so, the extra total front track width (26mm) will change the steering scrub radius but it'll be fine.

As long as the tyres are not made by "who flung dung" if so change them for Korean Midrange (Kumho / Hankook) or branded (Conti / Michelin / Pirelli / Goodyear)

I am picking them up on Saturday! Really needed to make sure they fit.

I purchased a set of wheels a few months ago without doing any research whatsoever and all 4 were sticking out of the arches massively. I do not want to roll out the arches, put fenders or shred the inner hub of alloy and it took me ages selling them :/

So in essence:

Fronts should be: 225/45/17
Rears should be: 255/40/17

Soon as I get them, il get the tyres changed over and put the correct ones on. All I need is a straight fit on hahaha. No extra costs or having to play with the body or purchase extra parts to make a cheap set of wheels fit.

As long as the car's not been lowered and your not running Wheel Spacers they will fit without fowling anything, it's just the tyres you need to sort (Size and brand)

Out of interest what were the other wheels (Spec) you bought that stuck out a mile ?
