Porsche 944 S2 - only 5,800 miles

Hopefully I haven't posted in the wrong section. I can't see anywhere for introductions. Hi everyone :)

This is my father's 1991 Porsche 944 S2. Last week I brought it out of storage to give it a clean before I took it to a local MOT centre and also took a few pictures of it out in the sunshine again. My brother is getting married next month and dad wants to surprise him by getting it back on the road so he can drive it to his wedding. My brother and I have fond memories cramped in the back of this thing on Sunday drives when we were kids, so hopefully he'll enjoy being in the front this time.

As you can see from the photos it has under 5,800 miles. It's last MOT was July 2002 so last week was it's first venture out on the road in just over 10 years. It passed the MOT with no issues and in a few weeks will be back out on the road. We'd quite like to get it out and about a bit more now, so hopefully it'll be out on a few trips before getting put away for the winter.

What a waste of a lovely car , give it the life it deserves pleeeeease !

Love that phone , I had one not much smaller in my pocket once [8|]

Hi

what a beautiful looking car and very rare with that mileage, I'm not sure what work you have done to date to get her ready for the road but please, please include belts etc. I know the car has done very little miles but rubber breaks down and going by your description I doubt if the belts have ever been changed since it's only done 6k miles. Even if they had been done before being stored that's 10 years ago which is 3 times longer than Porsche recommends. I'd make these a priority as I'd hate to see this treasure need a very expensive engine rebuild, worse still it could happen on the wedding day...:(

Lovely car though...:)

Off the road since 2002, what a crying shame [:(

Thank goodness it's going to be back on the road and good luck to your brother on his wedding day, it sounds like a great surprise to me [:D]

I definately agree with everyone who thinks it's a waste with such low miles. Having owned some nice handling cars myself, this 944 needs to be back out on the road more doing what it was designed to do.

He's an old school hoarder though and it's been hard enough to get him to get it back out again. You should see the stuff in his attic!! I've persuaded him to take it to a couple of meets in the near future so it's a start.

PSH: I def take on board what you are saying about possibly perishable parts. It's on my to-do list :)

Great car, cant be many like that around, agree that it needs some use rather than re-storing, yes will be worth something with such low mileage but sometimes memories of fun and using a car far outweigh any value held by storing.

In addition to the belts I would at least change the oil and brake fluid, perhaps give it a 12,000 mile service + belts at the next opportunity... and certainly as soon and possible.

Enjoy it

I would take it to a respected independent PORSCHE specialist or OPC for a health check ( MOT ONLY SEES IF IT IS ROAD WORTHY ).Belts etc ,oil ,filter , fuel system flush , brake fluid change , p steering fluid change. All rubber bushes on suspension need checking can dry out and get flat spots if car stood for a long time.Under car wring and fuel line check etc etc.A good technician who knows 944's will love to give it the once over.

Enjoy it !

Have to say, I'm with Paul and Mas - a car with this few miles is a waste!

Make sure it is driven. And a lot, too. 944's thrive on miles, and the more they do the better they seem to get. I can't imagine that this is the best example to drive by some long margin.

Oh and everyone who has mentioned belts is exactly right!

Oli.

OP, it needs a cambelt and balance belt before running. They expire over time as well as mileage and these are years out of date. If either fail you will be looking at new valves and possibly new cams.

Other than that, what a beautiful car. Hopefully therell be no signs of corrosion whatsoever, but even if there were you couldnt prise a car like that away from me.

When you start to you it you may have a few weeps, leaks and small failures, but when theyre attended to itll be brilliant. There is a mistaken line of thought which states that a 205,000 mile car is far better than a 5,000mile car, but as the owner of a 205,000 mile car now and the past owner of 5,000 mile cars, I can assure you that this is b*llocks! If you got bored of it taking up space in your garage, sell it to me so it can look pretty in mine. A car with this low mileage and in this good condition needs storing, not using, in my opinion. There are plenty of "worn" examples for us 944 fans to hack about in - this car should be preserved.
