Porsche 944 Turbo Cup

I came across one of these the other day; UK car, RHD.
I know absolutely nothing about them other than what I was told; a very limited road going edition of the Turbo Cup race series car.
Would someone care to enlighten me?

The one I think you mean was the Turbo SE or " Silver Rose" .

There were 75 sold in the UK in 1988 (of a worldwide production of 1600+). The specification was originally Silver Rose metallic (silver with a hint of pink) with Studio check interior - basically pink tartan with burgundy dash etc. Am I describing the car you saw?

Mechanically they had a bigger turbo than the standard car of the period and produced 250bhp against the standard 944 Turbo' s 220bhp. They also had bigger brakes, height and rebound adjustable Koni suspension, forged alloys, no sunroof, lighter windscreen, LSD, thicker anti-roll bars, bigger torque tube, ' Turbo' graphic on front offside wing (and probably some I' ve missed as well).

All in all they were very desirable. Because some people didn' t like the colour they became available in the full range of colours of the period, so there are black, white and other colours out there. Most still had studio check seats without the ' sport' bigger side bolster option AFAIK. All should be ' E' registered in the UK.

Porsche then went and spoiled things for these limited edition cars by making most of the special features (all bar the lightweight windscreen, silver rose paint and sunroof delete) standard for the ' 89 model year Turbo model.
