Porsche 986 Boxster Rear Lid for Roof Not closing properly

I and a friend both have a similar problem

THe known problem of the roof coming over the side panel which apparently is due to the rubber belts.

However the other problem is that when the roof open the cover does not close properly

Not sure if the two are related

Thanks

Hi Richard,

Not sure if you got sorted or not on this one but I had a similar issue, turned out 2 of the cables that have a popper on the end that look like they're there to help tension up the roof had been left off (not sure on the correct terminology). I'm guessing from getting into the engine bay at some point? When I popped them back on the roof lid sat flush.

Maybe worth checking.

Hi Richard,

i got exactly the same problem and would like to understand what is it? And what is the fix for it? Please if you can share with me how did you fix it? Thank you very much!

I have just developed this problem too on my '04 Boxster 986. Everything looks intact and has been well greased now. I don't think it is a problem with the clamshell, as the hood it's self seems to be preventing the clamshell from sitting flush when the hood is down.

Did anyone get to the bottom of this problem? I've read a lot on the internet but nothing has resolved my problem.

Hi. I'll check again, but on first inspection the ball and socket connections all looked good. There doesn't seem to be anything out of place of where it should be. The clamshell is also sitting a uniform 1inch proud of the shut lines all the way along the back edge just like in richardjjs1 photo at the start of this thread. The light also goes out on the dash to suggest the hood is down.

I ya e checked exactly the same and seems everything is correct. I have even went further and disconnect the balk joints to put it on manual mode and even on manual mode, the roof seems to be tight even pushing by hand and I do not want to push harder as might broken the window?…Please if anyone got any other suggest? I am start thinking to take it into my local Porsche Centre for a costly check…😔😔🤦🏻‍♂️

Is there no manual adjustment that can be done? It seems strange that everything seems to be functioning as it should (my problem only presented itself last weekend).

Like you Charlie, the roof seems to be preventing the clamshell from closing flush which suggests it's more to do with the roof mechanism. I can apply a bit of downward pressure and it will close flush.......but this is not ideal really.

I keep reading online about people with the same issue, but no real answer to the problem. I'll check all the moving parts again this evening to be sure.

Thank you very much! At least I am not alone on this subject, as it seems more popular now. I will share any feedback of findings.

Thank you!

charlie
