Hello
This is my first post as I have only just joined your club,I am looking for advise on replacing the door speakers in my car,
The speakers which I want to change are Nokia 4 ohm speakers I think they are 5.25 inch in size.
The one speaker I have is badly damaged
Any advise will be appreciated
Thanks

Hi Mark,

Welcome to the forum.

The Nokia speakers were not the best, but they are also 20+ years old. The easy option is to order a new one from your local Official Porsche Centre, then its a simple plug and play rather than having to cut wires and drill new holes if the old ones don't line up.

I'm sure someone will be along with upgrade suggestions of which there are many.

Common question this one - came up over on another forum (again), just the other week.

As the other poster mentioned, if you want to stay stock, the standard speakers are available from OPC at a reasonable price.

The alternative is to upgrade - there is a write up somewhere on this forum, but for me, some of the details in this and other approaches were not appealing because of mods to cabling etc and some of the recommended speakers had been revised and no longer fitted in the ways described.

I've done a bit of a write up based on my upgrade - no mods to cabling or fittings. It does involve buying a new set of OEM Porsche speakers, but it's worth it I think if you want to save those quality original Nokia's for potential refit later...

Andrew, that's a nice writeup and carefully considered procedure ... can we post it as a Technical Article please ? Or even Porsche Post as well ?

Hi maurice,

Yes, please feel free to re-use in any way.

I might be able to post an update after my winter maintenance as i plan to investigate incorporating a passive radiator to fill in the lower audio range without the incumberence and weight of a subwoofer. I'll only be doing this if i can maintain the same ethos of unpluggable modifications and no visibile changes though.

Cheerio

Andrew

I've replaced all of my speakers with some nice rainbow ones from source sounds reusing all the original grills.
