Porsche 996 Tiptronic Gearbox slipping

Hi,
My 1999 Porsche 996 tiptronic box is slipping. Usually at low speeds the revs rocket and feels like I am loosing drive and the gears are slipping.
When I take my foot off the accelerator it just changes up a gear and all is ok again.
It does not seem to matter if the engine / gearbox are cold or warm and it is very intermittent.
Anyone thoughts and much appreciated.
Andy

I'm not an expert but likely to be clutch slip, either because the clutch bands inside the box are worn, or because the oil is too low or degraded, or maybe a valve problem. If you google "997 tiptronic clutch slip" or similar there are plenty of useful articles. Probably need an auto transmission specialist to sort it, though just changing the transmission oil and filter seems to have been successful for some people (has that ever been done on your car?). If the transmission needs to come out, one of the Rennlist threads indicates it is easier to remove the engine and transmission before splitting it rather than trying to remove the transmission from the engine in situ. Good luck.

hi there,
I faced quite the same in the past. here's my story, hoping it could be of any help :
bought my 996 at 100000miles : time to service the gearbox (according to Porsche), already too late (words of my indee). anyway, gearbox serviced, 8 liters if I remember well. Everything went fine until, one year later, at every gear up engine reving cca 1000-1500 rpm.
I went to an automatic gearbox specialist => cleaning and refill oil => 15 liters ! torque converter was almost blocked by used and dirty oil.
everything goes fine since (more than 2 years now).
cheers.
Pierre.
