To all fans of the forthcoming 997 here is a link to some excellent photos. www.rennteam.com

Kindest regards

Those pictures don't look quite 'real' somehow. Something not quite right about them. And yeah don't like the interior much.

What's going on with that thing in the middle of the dash? Looks like that horrendous three pack of nonsense on a Shogun!

It is apparently for timing yourself on trackdays.

See this weeks Autocar for full details

The interiors a bit "bling" isn't it?[:'(]

Sure is and the bad news New Boxster will be almost identical too []

997 is a "Back to the future" 993 look a like which is an improvement on current model and great news for owners of 993's :ROFLMAO:

I'm thinking I might keep my current one. I don't think I can live with that interior having lived with the current one.
I also told my dealer I wanted a "delete cupholder" option[:D]

C2 will have 325bhp, S will have 355bhp.

Shame the base model will only be 5bhp more - and the same basic engine - wonder if they've corrected the RMS issue [;)]

I must disagree with you all, it looks great both inside and out, clock on the dashboard excepted (an option) Together with the improved standard suspension, uprated brakes, revised steering, 19inch wheels and an active suspension option it will be tremendous, look at the lap times for the 'Ring, we have another winner!

Front - ok
Rear haunches - great with 19" - awful with 18"
Back - great -a bit like a 356 (great job with spoiler)
Shorter - fab
Wider - very bad
Higher - bad
Heavier - bad
Interior - pretty good (apart from steering wheel)

But until we get driving impressions - who cares?

So it's back to the 993 look then?

Call me mad but I like the headlights on the 996 - they offer a bit of originality without bangling the car. Porsches go forward, quickly - not round and round in circles. Their design should do the same.

Not that I'll be turning down a test drive, mind.

As someone has said, a 911 has never been a thing of jaw dropping beauty like say an E Type, a 456 Ferrari, or a Aston DB9. Indeed, if the thing didn't have the coat of arms on the bonnet, it would be laughed off the pages of any magazine.

The fact that every 911 has been an unparallelled driving experience has meant that the shape has become iconic - much like the Citroen 2CV, Fiat Multipla, Land Rover Defender, Delta Integrale, Audi Ur Quattro etc cars which are not beautiful but have become iconic because they are the best at doing what they were designed to do.

Better a controversial shape and an amazing driving experience than the other way around in my book.

Got my Brochure with the photos and invitation to place deposit yesterday, I like it but will wait for the other models to make their way through.

I like it. I think it manages to look more modern than the 996 while incorporating styling cues from the 993. I confirmed my order today and increased my deposit to £3k. Should get delivery late this year or early next. Apparently I am 8th in the queue at Exeter.
