Porsche (AA) Assistance

Just looking at renewing my Porsche Assistance after a lockdown break, but working through the small print with regards to tyres it only seems to cover punctures as a 'breakdown' with various exclusions. I'm trying to clarify whether they will respond to pot-hole damage etc. My (due to expire) RAC policy is more open. Does anyone have any experience in this area ? This is my main concern when touring as it's my first car with no spare or runflats.
Thanks

No 1st hand experience - but I think you are over thinking it - tyre damaged, can't drive, call them - if the call handler asks awkward questions, just say puncture.

My 987.2 is my 2nd car without spare or run flats - never say never but previous 2 cars - toyota for 17 years with a spare - never used - carry a pump and re-inflate tyre 99 / 100 times. Audi - again 14 years - once occasion to use spare after i got side swiped by a lorry that ripped out the sidewall of the tyre.

Look back at your own "history" how many times would "no spare vs a pump" have got you home?

Hi, Yes you've got me in one !

I've BMs for years so never worried...always got home. But as you say...all been nails when I have had an issue...so a can of guk would have done it ! Only one response here vs 100 ish views reinforces it's not really an issue.

Thanks

I have always tended to hold of on the gunk if I can. Just stop often and top up with the pump.

many tyre places will tell you that the tyre is "a write off" if you have used gunk . experience from a mate suggests that this can be worked around by Rolling up a twenty pound note and pushing it into the hands of the fitter.

what they really mean is. We have to let the tyre down slowly rather than just ripping out the valve stem and then we have to wash both tyre and machine afterwards.

when my car went in for service they remarked "gunk is out of date but you have Porsche assist So why would you use it”

of course. I would prefer a spare of some description but honestly (And touching wood) once in 35 years and > 300k miles I have actually needed one.

make sure your electric pump works though.
