Please put the date 26th June in your diary. [FONT=verdana,geneva"][FONT=verdana,geneva"]R11 will be holding a mega car show at Stow Maries Aerodrome, Hackman's Lane, Purleigh, Nr. Maldon.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]This year, being a special anniversary for our Club, we decided on something special and will be holding our major event of the year at a WW1 aerodrome. The aerodrome is the largest WW1 site remaining, which was the home of 37 (Home Defence) Squadron, Royal Flying Corp., subsequently 37 Squadron RAF. The site houses a small museum and is now owned by Mr. Steve Wilson and Mr. Russell Savory of RS Performance, who are bespoke vehicle builders, manufacturing about ten vehicles a year for specific clients, the cars including their own hand-built engine, which provide awesome performance. For further details of the aerodrome see www.stowmaries.com.[FONT=verdana,geneva"]

[FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"]Twenty other car clubs are also invited to attend and so we hope for a great range of cars to admire. In the past we have had about 300 cars and would like to exceed that number this year.[FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"]We are planning to have vintage aircraft flying in, possibly the Essex Air Ambulance, model aircraft flying displays, an F1 simulator, the Essex Police Interceptors, a Harris Hawk flying display, and some historic motor vehicles.[FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"]There will be a pay-as-you-go hog roast, barbeque, and a local publican will be supplying liquid refreshment. [FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"]We will run the event between 11.00am and 4.00pm and so it would be good if our Porsches started to arrive at 9.30am because (a) we wish to arrange many of the cars in a display in the shape of number 50 with the hope of taking an aerial picture, and (b) the entrance to the aerodrome, although smooth concrete, is single track for much of it's length. [FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"]We will have a Regional concours with 3 classes, Porsche pre-1973, 1974-95, and 1996-August 2010. I know most of you look after your cars really well and they will be fine for our concours, which will judged by Paul Chapman of Chaplanes, the Official Porsche body shop in Colchester. Awards for the concours are being kindly supplied through the generosity of Simon Sweeting, General Manager, PC Colchester. Please register for the concours by letting me know your name, membership number, car model, year of manufacture, and registration number by 5th June.[FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"]Because we wish to raise as much as we can for cancer charities and the Essex Air Ambulance, we will make a charge of £5 per person, children under 16 years being free. Please note, there will be no credit card or debit card facilities and so entrance, food, etc., will be strictly cash only.[FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"]This promises to be a wonderful event and I hope you will support your Region. We will need 20 marshals to help with organisation on the day and, as a reflection of our gratitude, the marshals will receive free entrance and refreshment vouchers as a thank you. Please let me know if you can help from 9.00am onwards by sending an email to r11@porscheclubgb.com. [FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Hi Martyn,

We met at the monthly Regiment Way Golf Club recently, and I have since joined the club. I will be attending this Sunday, and aim to arrive before 10:00. Hope to see you then - please let me know if this is OK.
Sinclair.

Just wanted to congratulate everybody on a thoroughly enjoyable day - only sorry that we couldn't stay long enough to have our car in the '50' display! Looking forward next year's show!

Agreed, was a fantastic and very relaxed day, thanks to everyone involved in the organising of it.

Just one quick question though: Where was the hog roast? I must've walked around the site a good few times and couldn't find it anywhere...

Great day - thanks for organising such terrific weather Martyn, as well as all your efforts to organise the day generally , after a difficult time finding a venue. Thanks also to all our friends who helped out on the day [ and before ], and to trade suppliers, Porche Centre Colchester, etc.

Still somewhat shocked at winning a prize at the Concours , [ or was it actually a pre MOT check !! ]

Great to be amongst the old 'planes too - Goodwood Revival watch out !! [:)]

Let's hope we can do it again next year ?

I'm sure we all learnt a lot from the experience of organising at such a large venue, and we can only forward from here.

Steve

yeah was the hog roast?

and when was concours presented as no-one gave me any info as to where to be at what time. The pre-impact bumper 911 T in period green, was amazing

That would be Terry Allen's car - I only realised as I saw him leave. It is in lovely condition. I thought the 928 looked pretty good but I might be biased!

Yes that car was stunning. Any ideas who's the lucky owner?? Which car won??

Love the overhead of the 50, but could not find a way to contact Essex Explorer to ask how to obtain a copy of the photo - my cab is part of the 5!!

Anyone help?
