Porsche Assistance

Hi all,

Since buying my 997 C2s Cab in May this year, I hadn't got round to thinking about breakdown cover as I decided against putting a Porsche Warranty on the car due to the exclusion of cars with a Tracker and the sheer expense.

So I called up Porsche Assistance just now and you'll be glad to know that they do 2 year cover now too for £275, which works out at a very reasonable £137 a year.

(One year cover was £169 which is a tad too high I think)....

Depending on what you get - I've been with The AA for more years than I care to remember, I get roadside, home start and relay for wife and I (and we're covered whatever or whoever's car we're in!) for about £140pa, and the members club discounts my MoT at Nationwide Autocentres so both cars, I got the MoT for £27 in July this year!

Hi Chris,

Whilst you have a good deal there, you're not comparing like for like, as Porsche Assistance, whilst it's operated by the RAC, has a number of Porsche trained technicians in Premium vans that carry Porsche batteries and coils etc.

I know which one I'd rather choose.

Point taken Hasan if the Porsche is the daily driver - but we have a MB C270 as the shopping trolley, the 968 is the low mileage toy. I've done 34K in the 11 years I've had her! I've only once had to call the AA when in a Porsche - that was in my previous 944S when it overheated on the M11, AA man found the problem (split heater hose) and southern engineered a fix that was still in place and holding when I sold the car a year later!
As I said, one aspect of AA membership that I think is really good compared to many cheaper others is that it's the members that are covered, not the cars - was particularly comforting when daughter was a family member and out cavorting with friends in cheap old jalopy! All of a sudden my AA "NCB" went west!

Hi Hasan, do you have to be covered by the Porsche warranty to get Porsche Assistance cover?
No, you can buy it separately from the RAC

Yup - very useful info as I got my "expiry of warranty notification" letter through the post today, and although I wont (aka. cant) take out the extended warranty I certainly do want Porsche Assistance!

Mines due for renewal shortly, along with its first MOT [:(].. I wonder if any of the OPC will contact me?

It's ok for myself and you 997 guys but just a note for people reading this with older cars....
The RAC man I spoke to told me that Porsche Assist was only available for cars 9 years old or less.
This covers you for the Porsche only, but they give you a 50% discount on any other cover you may wish to take out.

Gary, sorry to pick on you but I regard you as being a font of knowledge on the 997 Turbo.

My initial warranty is up on 4th Jan 2010 but I have been told that all / any faults must be corrected before I apply to extend plus it must be done before 4th Jan. I am inclined to extend for 2 years but I am away from 4th December untithe Christmas holidays when the garage is shut so I have to get moving!

Do you / anyone have any views on extending the warranty, I though that there was a thread on this but couldnt find it!

Cheers

Mine was done in advance of the current warranty running out..
The benefits for me and possibly for you is that any faults found would be done under the excisting warranty and they don't start the new one until the expiry date anyhow..
It used to be that you could get the renewal done 30days in advance, but I'm sure a chat with the service manager will get the result you need.

AS far as the two years go, I'm due a service next year, so no advantage cost wise - via the no cost for the inspection as the OPC will do the inspection FOC if its in for a service.
It also leave me free to choose come next year. and the fact it dropped in price this year makes you wary of commiting for 2 years in advance..

IMHO

Thanks Gary

I think that I will go for the two years for the small discount while I have the money, next year could be difficult!

Cheers
