I spend quite a lot of time commuting up and down to our second home in Southern Italy. My 2001 S has done about 48000 miles and is no longer under warranty and the Porsche Assistance has lapsed. Can you re-join at any time and at what annual cost. porsche Assistance say it can only be done through my OPc and they dont seem to know!

It's part of an OPC warranty and you will need a pre-warranty inspection and £725 (ish) in the wallet.

The Porsche Assistance is a cover with RAC with a dedicated Porsche call line, so if you don't want to extend your warranty you can just ring RAC and join the equivalent scheme. The RAC van which pull up is the same as what everyone else would get i.e. we don't get a special Porsche trained RAC engineer turning up...

The Rac guys are not Porsche trained at all if there is anything wrong with your vehicle they will not even look at it just arrange for your vehicle to go to your choice of opc. I once called them out when we went away for the weekend because my bulbs had blown, unfortunately the RAC did not know how to change headlight bulbs on a 911 (Great Training)

I called the RAC out when my old Boxster kept cutting out in central London, "we're not allowed to touch these" was the response I got from the guy in the van, he didn't seem to know where the engine was [8|]
