Porsche Battery Optimiser

Evening all,

Noticed my battery seems a little tired following the (very) cold spell. When I purchased the car the previous owner gave me a Porsche Battery Optimiser as he used to spend 6 months of the year in Australia and used it while the car was garaged I beleive.

Plugged it in to the cigarette lighter within the vehicle, light on the optimiser goes red. Any idea how long this takes, will the light switch to green when it's complete? Should I be using this more often?

Thanks

I bought the C-TEK 3600, which Porsche re-badge and sell for quite a bit more. I now put it on my Boxster if I'm going to leave it any more than 5 days. Conditioners are not (just) chargers - their maximum current capacity is much lower, so they take considerably longer to charge a fully flat battery - at least 24 hours, IIRC from the little manual mine came with.

I just bought the one on offer from Lidal for 12.99. Works fine. I think that is a re-badged Porsche one too.

Get down there before they run out

Steve

Left mine on all night, came down this morning, light was still on red so I presume it has more to go?

Battery felt a lot stronger on start up which is positive, would you say I should re-connect it tonight again?

Mine is a porsche battery optimiser, the light goes red while still charging and goes out completely when done. It can take a long time to go out.

I check sometimes to see if its still working when the light is out by opening the car door and the red light comes on immediately

To answer his question it takes 2 days for the red light to go out and thats on a new Cayman S (bigger capacity battery than non S) . It charges up to 13.8v and then switches off until the volts drop to below 12.5 v before switching back on. This spooked me as well as I thought it wasn't working. The door trick works well.

Spent another night on charge and still red, I was concerned that it never moved from red. Thanks for the posts and the tip about the door trick!

Last night I decided not to link up the optimiser, got into the car this morning to go to work, key in, turn, very rapid ticking noice, tick tick tick tick tick. All the lights ont he intrument panel came up.

Long and short of it, had to drive the missus Merc.

Phoned Porsche, described the circumstances, dead battery... Replacement at £145.00 and they are going to charge me more to put the acid in the abttery as they come seperately.

Couple of questions. Does this sound right in terms of the dead battery, seems likely to me. Secondly, any suggestions for where I could source this battery from elsewhere and ideas of cost?

Cheers

Yes battery gone to heaven. Do you have the Porsche warranty? If so you are going to have to take it like a man and give the OPC your cash. If not, then Bosch Silverline or Halfords. Have a Halfords one in mine and it's doing the job. Comes with a 3 (I think) year warranty too :)
