i have a set of 19 inch wheels with winter tyres fitted sizes 235/40R19 92V front and 265/40 R19 98V rear

i have been offered Michelin Pilot Super Sports summer tyres sizes 235/35 19 front and 265/35 19 rear.He had these tyres on a Cayman R.Would they fit my cars wheels ?.

Are you sure about tyre size you have been offered, could they be 20in i.e. 235/35R20 Y88 front and 265/35R20 Y95 rear?

19in X 35 profile would fit your wheels, but the rolling radius is a little smaller and would render your speedo inaccurate.

Yes I am sure they are 19s front and back.Michelin said no that they wouldn't fit so I am pretty confused ??

The only difference would appear to be the profile, i.e. the height of the side wall? I cannot see any reason why they would not fit your wheels.
