Porsche Boxster 981 Park Assist

Can anyone help?
my park assist has failed I think due to waterlogged carpet behind the passenger seat.
I have managed to dry everything out but the ‘Park Assist Failed’ appears on the PCM display.
I have searched the manual for the appropriate fuse but there doesn’t appear to be one.
I have poked a piece of wire and applied air pressure down the drain hole on that side and hopefully cleared the blockage.
Has anyone had the same problem and if so how did you fix it.
For the moment I have switched the Park Assist off on the PCM but would like to fix the issue if I can.
I can see a box under the carpet behind the seat which I guess got wet, but I can’t get at it.
I guess the seat will have to come out if I need to gain access.
I would have thought there would be a fuse that needs to be checked first though.
Thanks
John

It's a really stupid design and a common problem. Is everything else working, central locking, the roof etc? All controlled from this ECU. There is even an American company making waterproof cases for older cars.

This is a similar thread and a sorry tale. Dry the box out as quickly as you can - hopefully it'll be salvageable. Good luck

don’t know about the 981. This is all based on the 987 but may help

two units under the passenger seat One is the rear control unit (rcu) does roof, spoiler, rear and brake lights, boot latch

the other is the park assist.

the key is to stop it happening again or getting worse. The 981 drains are different to the 987 so I suggest a google for info on finding and clearing them.

drying them out can take days. The foam under the carpet holds a lot of water. Seat out prop something under the carpet to create an air gap and dry with kitchen roll or whatever you have. a dehumidifier in the car will help,if you can get power there.

dry the control units as best you can in an airing cupboard. The problems are usually related to corrosion on the boards causing short circuit and component damage so issues can happen later if those units have water in them

if you turn the ignition on with the seat removed you will cause an air bag fault light. Needs a diag unit to clear that.

I don’t think there will be a separate fuse but typically there’s a list in the fuse box lid but failing that pull them all one by one and test them with a meter But unless the carpet and Units are dry and the drains are clear then even if there is a fuse it will just blow again.

if you have to replace a rear control unit it will need coding to the car. In he 987 the park assist is drop in replacement if it comes to that.

good luck.

Ok thanks for the advise.

I have a dehumidifier and will try that first and attempt to clear the drains.

There’s only a small slit in the carpet and I can only see one box. I guess the others there somewhere.

I suppose if it’s only the Park Assist that is affected I’ve been lucky.

Thanks once again
