Porsche Boxster 981

Might be better posting n the Boxster section.

By "they" do you mean Porsche or a 3rd party, such as the old Haynes manuals?

Today, all car's cabin and dash electrics seemed normal, but the battery seemed unable to start the starter motor & engine, so I put it on charge for several hours then tried again - with same result. All I get from the starter is a kind of "grunt" and a slight movement of the engine. but nothing like the movement needed for ignition. The battery is the same age as the car (10 years) so I've removed it and will get a new one tomorrow. If the new battery doesn't help what should I look at next - starter motor, ring gear . . . Are there any known problems affecting starting with the Boxster 981 2.7 PDK (2014) ?

If not battery then I would look at the physical connections to the starter motor and the earthing before diving deeper.

As an aside - and not wishing to open a can of worms - the car should be told about the new battery - there is smart charging logic associated with stop/start and "state of charge" of the batteries on the 981 - if the car doesn't get told/coded for new battery then it will continue to treat it like the 10 year old one - it won;t charge optimally, stop start will not be available when it should be (yes I know, sometimes people don't see that as a bad thing) - but I have read that using a 10 year old charging profile on a brand new battery can shorten the service life of the new one.

I figure they (and this is true for all AGM stop/start cars as far as I know) don't put the routines in place to do it if it doesn't have any affect.

As a counter - I have heard folks say "didn't do it, nothing bad happened" - but who knows in a year or two's time.
