Just popped into my OPC and had a pleasant surprise when I asked the price of Porsche's own silicon wax, leather cleaner/conditioner, roof protectant and wheel cleaner. Of course my question is whether the stuff is any good?? [8|] Haven't waxed my car since purchase in Aug 05 so keen to get some wax protection on the car. Comments?

I was always told that Silicon Wax was a no-no. Silicon and paint is not a good combination.
The roof protectant is rubbish - use the 3M (Scotchguard Heavy Duty) stuff from B&Q instead.
The wheel cleaner - is it a greeny-coloured liquid in a spray? If so it is re-branded P21S wheel cleaner and that IS excellent !
No idea about the leather stuff. Sorry....

Hi Mark,
The wax is listed in the Tequipment catalogue and it's my assumption that it's silicon as I think the organic stuff would be at least £40 rather than £15?? Why is silicon so bad? I think my car was zymoled when new at Guildford. The wheel cleaner is the green stuff. Will be a great help as they are nightmare to clean by hand.

Silicon always used to be known as "Death to paint" I'm no chemist - so I don't know why.
The wheel cleaner is great - Spray on, leave a few minutes and hose off. (you might need a little agitation with a brush if you don't use a power washer to wash it off).
I'd just buy the wheel cleaner (how much is it?)

The car care products I have that are sold by Porsche are made by Dr. O.K. Wack. http://www.wackchem.com/ I have not looked at the wax to see if it is made by Wack.
I fact, Porsche may no longer show manufacturers name. My stuff is very old.

Thanks TP.
Dr OK Wack make the P21S wheel cleaner as well.
Hmmm, if the wax is P21S wax rebranded as Porsche, then that is an excellent product as well. But P21S wax is carnuba - not silicon...
I wonder what it really is?

Mark, as far as I know, you are correct, the Porsche stuff is rebranded P21S (or at least it was a couple of years ago). I bought a fair amount of their stuff from www.iauto.co.uk who had a nice web page admitting its the same as the porsche stuff. Not sure they are still in business though as their website has been "under maintenance" for a few years now.
Funnily enough I just ordered Zaino's "ULTIMATE" kit yesterday (one of the benefits of working half time in the USA) so we'll see how that does when I get back to the UK.

I think generally most information suggests that current silicon waxes aren't harmful to paint. They can however leave poor finishes where the paint finish isn't great and seem to generally used in the less expensive produts.
