Good morning all,

At about 09:30 this day last year, my first ever Porsche was dropped off. It was the most expensive thing I have ever purchased outside of houses.
I know is only a base Cayman, but it is all I need (At the moment) and I absolutely love it and make excuses to take it out whenever I can, even if its just nipping up to the local with my misses for a quick drink before dinner, of nipping into town to pick up something from the supermarket.

It hasn't been an easy ride so to speak, as I had a few problems with Porsche themselves not continuing the warranty because of an incorrectly written down VIN number when the previous owner took out his 2-year extended warranty, but Porsche Centre Tonbridge sorted out the two minor problems on my car, a defective horn and a small aircon leak. These were paid for by Porsche Centre Teesside as it was their mistake about the VIN number, but after a few months of worrying, everything was sorted, and my car now had another 2 years of Porsche Extended warranty to give me some peach of mind.

The car when I saw it had everything I wanted, except the PSE, so as I'd been looking for quite some time, took the plunge and got my lovely 2013 White Cayman 981 as it was and had fit the PSE fitted shortly afterwards.

So far, my experience of owning one of my dream cars has far exceeded my expectations and fears of huge running costs didn’t materialise. Yes, the additional 111 point check and extra costs for a new warranty where more than I had planned, but overall, the car has gone up in value (I think), and it has proven quite good on fuel, insurance and general upkeep costs.

This club and website have also been great at helping me and finding information about the marque and Caymans/Boxsters in general so thanks for putting up with me whittering on about extended warranties etc etc. I also popped along to the event organised at Lydden Race Circuit last year and met quite a few people and their Porsches which was a great day out.

We are hoping to take the car over to the continent sometime this year as well as up to the highlands in Scotland as I have family up there that I need to see.

So hopefully my second year of ownership will continue as good as the first, and yes, I really do smile, every single time, as soon as I get in and start the engine. That’s before switching PSE, Sports Mode or Sports Plus on.

Cheers

Hi Cad,

It’s always good to hear such positive and enthusiastic feedback from someone for whom it’s their first Porsche, a Cayman especially.

Enjoy your Continental and Highland trips. You may want to PM Brian Innes (a long-time Cayman enthusiast who’s now defected to an Alpine 😲 and who lives in Nairn) for Highland routes advice.

Good to hear you’re enjoying your Cayman Cad. Base or not, they are great cars and I wish you many happy years in it.

Prefer to call these cars the standard model rather than 'base' .Most will also have been specced upwards to suit individual tastes. And as I say more car than most will need. Personal observation.

Hello Cad, thanks for sharing your enjoyment of your Cayman.

I also have a 2013 Cayman and am half way through second year of ownership. It’s a lovely car, well-specced and cared-for by the first owner. However I am grateful for the 2yr. extended warranty as mine also needs a replacement of faulty horn as well as more significantly a replacement coolant reservoir - engine out job; currently awaiting parts delivery and OPC workshop booking.

Hope you continue to enjoy driving your car.😀
