Porsche Centre Cap Corrosion

Hi Guy's
Thought I would just raise a thread on this common problem with Porsche Centre caps which Porsche have not address from day one, having replaced my caps on my Boxster, Cayman and now just about to replace my caps on my 911, is there anything that can be done to prevent this problem ?

Nothing can be done by Porsche - tends to be the fault of owners who use abrasive cleaning materials. I replaced mine 2 years ago and only use non-acidic wheel cleaner and they're still like new.

If if you are brave (daft) enough to use hand car wash type places this will be the problem. If you clean yourself look at the wheel cleaner you're using.

Some valid points, the corrosion damage may have been cause by the previous owners as there were like that when I bought the cars, although when I had previously replaced them on my Cayman S the Porsche shop floor manager said this was a common problem. I always wash my cars by hand (OCD) and use a non-acid wheel cleaner so hopefully when I replace them this time they will remain like new as I intend to keep this car for a long time, clear lacquer does sound like a good protection.
regards

Pete

Funny I was just looking at mine and they would need replaced. Not really bad but just the edges. I too only use non acidic shampoo and seal my wheels so I'm blaming previous owners. How much is a set of caps?
