PORSCHE Charge-O-Mat II Battery Maintainer

Today LIDL is selling a battery conditioner for £4.99 - I bought one a year ago and its fine.
Imagine the Porsche one is slightly more.

I bought a Porsche one last year and have found it great. Worked fab when I went home to Australia last year. They aren't cheap, especially compared to buying one at Lidl[8|] Probably worthwhile doing a quick comparison with others available.
 
Get the CTEK one; the only difference is the Porsche Logo and the price you pay for the logo.

Any 'electronic' charger is preferable to a 'basic' unregulated charger especially for a sensitive battery. Although car batteries can accept a certain amount of abuse the same cannot be said of a motorcycle battery. They are probably complete overkill for a Porsche but not too expensive and the range of accessories includes additional charger leads, 2m extension, wall bracket, cigar lighter plug etc. Unless your battery is already on the way out the charging current (1.2A) is not relevant and the ability to recover (does this) a semi-sulphated battery should not be an issue with the car but might be worthwhile for other (future) recovery projects. Many other chargers use the same connector and additional charger leads (these are waterproof) are easily bought.

It's probably best to avoid using croc-clips (risk of shorting) either by wiring in a permanent connection (my preference) or by using a cigar lighter plug (security issues). Any permanent connection is best made by connecting to a bolt or soldered into an existing wire - using a 'quickie' connector with a metal insulating piercing staple should be avoided. The LEDs which indicate the point within the cycle e.g. maintenance, charging, discharged etc. provide an indication of the current battery state.
 
I've got the Porsche battery maintainer, it works. I think it's make by Ctek, it looks identical apart from the logo.
 
I have the Porsche charge o mat 11 and an Accumate (sp?). Both work fine, just the Porsche one is twice the price. Both are left on all the time the cars are in the garage. Both cars start and neither has caught fire so all seems to be fine.

The Charge o mat plugs into the cigar lighter and leads out under the door sill which means the car can be left fully locked and alarmed.

The Accumate didn't have a cigar plug in so I had to cannibalise another device for a plug.

Whichever way you go it is worthwhile as modern alarms seem flatten batteries in a couple of weeks if the car is not used.

How long is the power cable?

My car isn't garaged, so I'm concerned that rain may cause me some interesting issues !
