Porsche & Chips

Has anybody ever fitted either a Star*Chip or Super Chip to their 8v 944.

And if so which is better.

Star*chip claim 19bhp extra on the 944 and Superchip Claim 10-15 bhp.

Marcus,

Whilst no expert, both seem relatively expensive for limitted gain.

The Lux engine is already at a fair state of tune and there is, reputed to be, little that can be done cheaply to get much more out of it. You could look at reducing restrictions on both the inlet side (induction kit) and exhaust (a free flow exhaust) helping the car to breath easier.

The exhaust will cost you as much as a chip, may give 10+bhp but you will get to enjoy the noise [;)]

An induction kit, again, gives you a great roar with reputed increases of about 5 bhp for aprox £150.

If you haven' t fitted a throttle response cam then do it. Whilst not increasing anything, it does make the car seem quicker.

I look forward to your comments...

IMHO it is better and safer to have a chip burned specifically for your car whilst on a rolling road at the tuners, rather than an off the shelf one. Many Turbo owners in the 944 Register recommend Wayne at www.chipwizards.co.uk (rubbish website) who does N/A cars for approx £250

AMD and Bob Watson who both advertise in Porsche Post also retune on a rolling road

Thanks for the info im not sure my exhaust is standard equip as it sounds quite raspy but it dont look like anything special. I will get a throttle response cam but i need to get a new bit of trim for the top of my windscreen as mine is on the M5 somewhere

Removing parts from the car to reduce weight is another good performance upgrade[:D]

True but the trim weighs nowt and i think its quite important to stop the window falling out LOL
