Porsche Classic Parts

Hi,
Porsche Classic brochure update of Classic Parts etc. shows that now available is a Litronic wiring harness for our cars. I assume this is a new addition and not an ongoing part. Not withstanding the previous sentence has anybody installed this wiring and if so was it complicated? With the new MOT regs. potentially making my new HID set up illegal this may be a very expensive way forward. Not for the faint hearted I suspect.

Richard,

I didn't know there was a Porsche Classic brochure.

As regards the HID issue, my MOT station are taking quite a sensible view and I don't think you will have any problems with a retrofit 993 providing they are well adjusted

I think you will find the Porsche Classic parts are just old parts that have been re introduced into the system, not "new" as such. All the other ones I have checked have been long time no longer available until Porsche Classic came along

I might be missing something here but is the "Porsche Classic Parts Catalogues" not just PET (the Porsche electronic parts catalogue) that has been available as a download through various and possibly illegal sources for years? I use this all the time for part numbers which I then provide to the PC when ordering parts.

993 parts have never been "out of the system" and in many instances are still being re-made rather than being "old new stock", for example I bought a new gearbox undertray last year that was made in the summer of 2011 according to it's date of manufacture date. In fact I never cease to be amazed by how easy it is to get parts from the manufacturer for my nearly seventeen year old car within two days, even obscure bits of trim.

Porsche come in for a lot of stick for ignoring their heritage by abandoning their racing programme and building four wheel drive mud pluggers. But I think that so long as they continue take car of their customers with older cars it's obvious that the bean counters haven't taken over entriely.

Richard, if you do a search you will find a statement that I posted which I received directly from the DOT after I raised my concerns with them. DIY HID won't be a problem, well aslong as your alignment is ok in the 1st place.

I can assure you Clyde, many parts on the 993 are no longer available. As an example, the heater flap motor went NLA for about 2 years and has now been re-introduced (a Classic part)

Thanks for the replies. Now that our cars are officially classified as "Classic", parts are now listed in the Porsche Classic Brochure. Clicking on classic on the Porsche web site should bring up the details if you are moved to check it out. My original message lacked vital content but was implied. Having decided to buy a harness the next step must necessarily be new Litronic light units. Only to be done I think when the Lottery comes up trumps.

I guess I've just been lucky so far then. The service record book has been the only thing I couldn't get within a couple of days.
