Hi, Has anybody installed the above system to their 993? Have there been any problems? Does an iPod work with the system?
Regards

Mike

Mike, answering in same order:

yes, no, yes.

i love it. Obviously has its critics but considering what's squeezed into a DIN size box, I think it's amazing.

Especially the uber cool Porsche logo on the screen each time it fires up.

happy to answer more questions if it helps.

How much are they, fitted at an OPC?

Dunno, I bought mine at Classic at castle last year, Porsche doing special deal for the event. I had it fitted by auto electrics expert in Acton recommended by another 993 owner. He did grest job.

OPC quoted me £1175 supplied and fitted to my 993, Design 911 are retailing them at £895 and then you need a local auto electrician to fit it.

I'm having mine done at Source in Sheffield with a speaker upgrade at the same time.

I can't recall exact numbers but I paid circa £800 for the unit (it was end of the day and the guys in the Porsche heritage tent had just one left) and paid around £125 for it to be fitted, though had anew tracker installed at same time, so it could have been more.

either way I don't think you'll regret it, especially with upgraded speakers -- something I've not done but have been pondering....

enjoy!

I put one in my 993 TT just a couple of months ago. It was done by OPC Swindon, a simple job done well. The labour wasn't expensive but the unit itself was over £1000 if i remember correctly.I am delighted with it, and the navigation screen, though tiny, works really well.

I didn't upgrade my speakers which i probably should have done, as they are a bit lame compared to modern car hi-fi.

If money is no object, this is definitely the 993 stereo/nav to buy.

Look in Porsche Post a few months ago for Ken Coad's write-up after he had one installed in his 968.

Guys, Thanks very much for the responses will check it out with the new Porsche Centre in Wolverhampton.

Regards

Mike

I can recommend it too, got mine fitted in 2013, so I have the previous generation of the Classic radio.

I think the newer classic radio fits more the design of a 993.

It works fine with Android phones (tested with Galaxy S4 mini and S7 edge). I got mine fitted at a Porsche specialist in Germany and I paid around 850€.

Just bought a 993 with one fitted. I think it was fitted Dec 15. Only thing that i have a problem with is that the radio even if turned off will fire up every time

the SAT NAV starts to give a instruction. Just for a couple of seconds you have 2 voices but sometimes enough to miss the sat nav instruction.

As already stated for the size it does everything well , but the voice over lap is a pain on mine.

Is the mapping updatable in the future?

I haven't seen any possibility for that... The navigation software which runs on the radio is called RC-Win.

Maybe there is a possibility from the original manufacturer.

Does anybody know where I could get a manual (electronic version would be fine) for the older version of the classic radio. You can get one for the new version on porsches site, but not the older one (which i have in my car).
