Porsche Classic Radio Navigation

Hi,

I would like to upgrade the radio in my 993 targa.
I found a nice retro radio from Porsche called 'Porsche classic navigation radio'.

Does anyone have experience with it? How does it look in a 993?
Do you guys know where to get it with a good price?

Thanks
Chris

I really like the look of these as well but as far as I am aware there is no where sells them at discount !!! [:(]

I have one - fitted last year at Cardiff OPC. Cost of unit (with traffic management option) and fitting was about a grand.

Not bad - looks good IMHO, though some don't like the way it protrudes. Small touch screen (obviously) but OK.

Has a USB socket for media on memory stick and it's live, so you can charge you iPhone or other USB charger devices. SD memory card slots and disk-slot are behind the drop-down hinged front cover.

CD/DVD player is a little sensitive over rough roads.

Tuner seems a little insensitive - it likes a strong signal. Remote control necessary for configuration.

Navigation system only allows entry of the first five characters (incl. space, e.g. NW1 7xx where xx cannot be entered) of a post code - then you have to select from a list. Not great but OK. I guess this may be addressed in a future software release. Touch-screen destination selection on the map is good.

Hope that helps.

I've got to say I've never been a fan of the 'classic' unit - strange combination of 1980's retro and semi modern screen that doesn't suit a 993 IMHO. I've always preferred the Becker units (Indianappolis, Traffic Pro, Cascade etc) although they only give turn by turn instructions and aren't available new now.

Thanks for your replys.
I googled a bit and the Classic radio seems to be based on a Krämer KR737 (which retails at 380€).
I also agree with Steward - it somehow looks a bit too retro for the 993 when I look at T911UK's picture.
Anyway, I will think about it and possibly upgrade the radio with the next maintenance..
