I know that Porsche Club relies on a lot of voluntary help but i have to say i find the comms pretty hopeless. I have posted these comments on Boxster Forum rather than NW Forum because i think they only review the regional forum on a bi-annual basis. I re-arranged a number of commitments to be free yesterday for NW region summer sunday drive. Confirmed in April's Porsche Post etc etc. On Friday i decided, on a hunch, to ask for a confirmation and one kind person responded that this event was now cancelled!! I can find no notification of this, certainly not on the NW Forum so thanks, I could have driven a sunstantial distance and wasted time and money. I phoned the regional contact number on Sunday morning asking for a an urgent call to find out if indeed the event was cancelled and am still waiting a reply!!!!!!

In addition, i emailed the Boxster Register email on 3 April asking for some info and still have had no reply. I understand a lot of volunteers run the club but i am still a paying customer and regularly receive no response whatsoever when on rare occasions i request some service from the Club. I am currently holding a letter asking me to renew membership and outlining all the benefits, well a response to a request in some kind of reasonable time would be a vast improvement!!!!! Rant over.[]

My understanding is that Porsche Post operates about 6 weeks in advance, ie the deadline for articles whether regional, resgister or general news, is 6 weeks prior to publication. Its obviously very difficult to do anything but advertise events with this sort of leadtime. the regional forum should always be the port of call for up to date information, or failing that the regional organiser by telephone. appears you have been let down on both counts on this occassion.

Even the forum isn't ideal - i have numerous members in R6 that cannot view the forum due to versions of windows/IE.

eek... Sorry - I thought I'd replied. (You've got one now).

I am HOPELESS with email. I always think "I must reply to that", but I'm usually at work... So I try and remember to do it later. I forgot - Sorry.[&o]

This is correct, and why regions and registers need to be able to communicate fast through other means.

Most regions don't seem to use the forum, and it's understandable as not everyone chooses to read it. My region has an e-mail ring, and late-notice items are mailed round to everyone, as was the case in Feb when the snow caused our Club night to be cancelled at the last minute.

Peter, why not pick the phone up and tell your RO what you think? They might not like it, but it's important that they are aware that there's a communication issue within their region!

Thanks Paul. Might just do that. Appreciate some people don't use forum but it would catch a lot of people who can see it. I already provided email when i was allocated to NW Region and get the odd message. One one hand we are encouraged to use forum and get involved in Club events and yet i am regularly underwhelmed by NW region comms. As i received no cancellation email for Sunday, no post on forum i am fascinated to know how it was cancelled and why.

Most ROs have an email list to contact their members so at least a short one explainaing the situation should have been feasible.

Maybe the RO has had a problem, ill or even on holiday, or something similar. To me there is no real excuse with all the means of commuications we have today.

Email or forum - the problem is mostly covered.

The idea that "not enough people use the forum so we won't use it as a main channel of communication" is very short-sighted in my opinion. If the forum WAS used more by the regions for communicating events and late news it would probably encourage many of the current 'non-users' to use it more regularly.

To me it's a bit like a shopkeeper deciding not to stock his shelves because he doesn't have enough customers coming through his door. However, the customers don't come into the shop because they think he never has anything useful on the shelves.

It's a catch22 situation which can only be solved if the entire club embraces the website and forum.

The explanation has now appeared on the R5 forum section! 'Horse - stable - bolt' all come to mind!

Thanks Peter
That BMW Isseta must fly with a 2.0d[:D] (Didn't realise they still made them in 2008[8|])

Hi Graham - wish I still had it - was my first car at 16 yr old and with 3 wheels I could drive legally on my motorbike licence. I had some fun with the girls - but thats another story or 3 !!

Ann Marie would like me to get another!

Thanks all. I thought i was having an "Is it me" moment. I'm a pretty undemanding member but basic communication in this day and age is surely not asking too much!!

[:D]

.........................and to add insult to injury i left the RO a message to contact me urgently on the morning i found the Summer Sunday cancelled. I guess he might eventually get around to giving me a call back but i am obviously not part of the NW Region chosen few!
