Porsche (Cobra) VTS False Alerts

Anyone else has problems with false theft alerts from the Cobra VTS/security system?

I've had two false alerts in the two weeks that I have had the car (from new).

On the first occasion the driver card had switched off and I put this down to the on/off switch being pressed by the other contents of my pocket.

On the second occasion I think that the card had switched off but in sunlight it is virtually impossible to tell whether the tiny LED is blinking or not, however, pressure from the other contents of my pocket seemed much less likely as it was in my pocket with only a few coins. (where are you supposed to keep the bl**dy thing anyway?).

There is one common factor between both occasions which may seem a bit far-fetched but each alert occurred just after I had used the "open-boot" button on the key. Any possibility of "interference" (any techies out there?)

Incidentally, when, on the second occasion I said to the control-room person "are the driver cards likely to switch themselves off with pressure from other things in the same pocket or just decide to switch themselves off randomly" she said "both"! I asked her to register that I was not happy with these failures.

I've not had any problems, in fact I've toyed with the idea of switching mine off just to confirm that the car is being monitored - I've never had an alert call. When I received my tokens both were on and I recall having to press quite firmly to turn the spare one off. I made a small pouch for the regular token and keep this on a chain which I either loop around my belt or, when washing the car, hang round my neck.

Ask for the system to be reset.

My wife had lots of false alarms with hers, but it has been OK since being reset.

I don't think we will be renewing though.

Would you still get competitive insurance quotes? Would not renewing be the same as not having a device installed at all?
Thought a lot of good insurance companies do not insure such cars if it does not have an active tracker system (?)

If she had a 997 then I think she might struggle with insurance based on the vehicle value - but it's only a lowly 2.7 987 so not really an issue.

Insurance companies are getting picky now - I traded in my 987S recently - it had to have an activte form of tracker to be insured, mind you this was also for business use and high mileage.

The reduction in insurance premium alone on a VTS renewal would probably save more than the cost of a less well regarded tracker.

its kind of hobsons choice
